SUMMER'S BEAUTY

Watch Commander by Kelly Lewis

FEATURED ARTISTS

KELLY LEWIS

Welcome New Gallery Member,

Kelly Lewis, a self-representing artist currently residing in the picturesque mountains of Southern California. She finds her inspiration in the untamed beauty of nature. With a heart drawn to adventure, Kelly enjoys spending time out on the lake in her kayak and exploring the trails, alongside her faithful canine companions.

In her previous life as a park ranger, Kelly's connection with the wilderness deepened, blending seamlessly with her innate artistic flair. Drawing inspiration from firsthand encounters and a profound love for the natural world, she weaves tales of wildlife onto her canvases with meticulous detail bringing each piece to life.

As a self-taught artist, Kelly's journey has been one of relentless dedication and boundless curiosity. She primarily works in acrylic paint and graphite but always enjoys learning new mediums. Through her work, she aims not only to capture the essence of her wild subjects but also to ignite a spark of curiosity and appreciation for the creatures that share our world.

Kelly is a proud Artisan Member of Cowgirl Artists of America and a member of the Guild of Natural Science Illustrators. Through her art, she continues to bridge the gap between the human world and the untamed wilderness, inviting others to join her in celebrating the wonders of the natural realm.

DAVID FICKE

Dave Ficke is an American nature and wildlife photographer and conservationist. Dave’s thirty years as an environmental educator and life-long wildlife enthusiast has nurtured a love of nature and its beauty, which he has captured in his photographs. Long an advocate of conservation and stewardship of our natural environment, he has passionately taught those principles as a high school science teacher.

Dave’s entire career has been influenced by his dedication to environmental conservation; his roles as both photographer and field biology teacher have reflected this. Dave believes he can capture a great many people’s attention regarding the rapid loss of species in our wild places across the globe, with his camera as well as his in-depth knowledge of earth’s rapidly deteriorating ecosystems. “It’s critical that our students understand that all of us are part of this earth ecosystem, and we need to protect our wild places and the species that live there.”

Dave believes in experiential education and for 33 years took his high school students on weeklong field trips to Yosemite, canoeing down the Colorado river and sharing many other outdoor experiences with his students.

When Dave was in high school, he ventured, for the first time, out into the backcountry of Yosemite National Park; from thereon Yosemite became, along with his wife, the home of his heart. He has traveled from Alaska to Mongolia and is always on the lookout for adventure and that new wilderness experience.

For the past eight years Dave has been the Sports Photojournalist for The Mountain News in Lake Arrowhead, California. Dave’s experience as a high school educator has informed his strong belief that high school-based extracurricular activities can exert a positive impact on that age group of students. Dave’s primary beat is Rim High School’s many sports as well as other activities within the Rim of the World School District. Just as Dave believes in outdoor education for our students; in his own words he asserts, “It is important for our students to know that they are supported as student athletes, as sports builds character and is a positive team effort.” Dave has also covered Fresno State’s Football and recently covered the ‘Jimmy Kimmel LA Bowl’ football game finals, Fresno State vs Washington State.

NANCY GRACE

In the last 10 years I have discovered my most recent passion as a fine-art painter working in oil’s. I paint landscapes and still life, animals and florals. I work from photographs and in plein air where I’m challenged by the ever-changing light of nature. My canvases are painted around the San Bernardino mountains, throughout California and the country while traveling with my husband in our 5th wheel trailer.

I strive to paint in an impressionistic style and am inspired by the glorious natural world. To capture and document a place or a moment in time is immensely gratifying. Each new paining is a steppingstone. They challenge me to learn, to see, to grow. They guide me as an artist, as a woman and as a lover of nature. To be on this path pursuing my artistic endeavors gives me immense joy.

PATTY WOODS-GAWLIK

My professional art career started during my high school years with encouragement from my high school art teacher in 1972. I have been a commission artist since then, for over five decades, encompassing many genres and mediums. My most popular themes were hand painted bucolic scenes with animals, flowers, ribbons with birds, and vineyards in Italy, often with a child’s portrait. Each client request was unique and I quickly learned that personalization of art for my clients created steady work for over 50 years. The decorative arts and creative craftsmanship involved in my professional art career paid the bills.

I want to share what I have learned through teaching and encouraging people to develop their own creativity. It’s about building community, networking, and passing on skills that could work into a career.

As artificial intelligence eliminates many jobs that are pure knowledge based, like route learning, rather than intuitive skills, Mark Cuban said that people with creative thinking will be in demand the most. An artist is a person that has abilities to take two or more ideas and combine them into something unique.

Artists need an open mindset, a willingness to be free and a childlike attitude in play with a consistent manner. These attitudes are key to creativity. Through practice brings skills and later genius. Genius is often lost as we age, we isolate from others, we doubt our self worth and we lose our desire to connect and communicate. Senility sets in.

Come join me to learn creativity, to develop new brain function, mindfulness, and community connections, and to share ideas on what makes life meaningful.
