A Legacy of Cougars:

Six Remarkable Women, One Special School

For my family, Carondelet has been more than a school. It has been a second home, a shared tradition, and the foundation for the women I am so proud of today.

In May, my two youngest daughters, Allison ’25 and Amelia ’25, walked across the stage to receive their Carondelet diplomas. Allison will soon head to Fordham University to study business, and Amelia will begin her nursing studies at Fairfield University. Before them came their sister Audrey ’24, now a sophomore at Santa Clara University in the Honors Program, double majoring in English and business. Their oldest sisters are Maggie ’22 and Lily ’22. Maggie is now a senior at Santa Clara majoring in business, and Lily is a senior nursing student at Baylor.

For the past six years, at least two Bowes have walked the halls of Carondelet, weaving my family into the fabric of the school. Their achievements tell a story of leadership, service, and spirit: 16 years of student leadership, three Jefferson Awards, five Presidential Volunteer Awards, eight different sports across 31 teams, nine captain armbands, three homecoming court selections, and a salutatorian.

I am deeply grateful to the entire Carondelet community for making these years so joyful and meaningful for my family. Teachers and coaches often said how much they loved seeing multiple Bowes, noting both the shared family traits and the distinct strengths each daughter brought. Each carved her own path, yet all were shaped by the Carondelet values of Heart, Faith, Courage, and Excellence—lived in classrooms, on courts and fields, during assemblies and retreats, and in everyday moments.

And the sixth remarkable woman? Their mother, Teresa Peinado ’90, whom I fondly watched cross the same Carondelet stage to receive her diploma 35 years ago. Teresa will always be the most powerful role model of these enduring Carondelet values to my daughters, and her journey came full circle as she proudly watched each of them follow in her footsteps.

While my family’s daily presence at Carondelet may be ending, I will be watching with gratitude and wonder as these six remarkable women carry its values forward in every part of their lives. Their legacy is only beginning to take shape, and will not be measured in diplomas or awards, but in the courage, compassion, and light they bring to the world. I am excited to see how their stories unfold in the many chapters still to be written.

Thank you, Carondelet.

And to my beautiful family, always remember: We are the Bowes!

Jim Bowes (De La Salle ’90) is the proud father of five Carondelet graduates and husband to alumna Teresa Peinado Bowes ’90.

Fifty Years, Forever Friends: Alaska Cruise Reunion

In May 2025, 14 intrepid Carondelet and De La Salle alum from the class of ’75, along with spouses and family, celebrated their 50th high school reunion on a cruise to Alaska. They traveled from Vancouver, British Columbia, to Whittier, Alaska, with stops in Ketchikan, Juneau, and Skagway, and finally set their sights on Glacier Bay National Park and the College Fjords.

The best part was reconnecting with classmates they hadn’t seen in a while. Rumor has it that now all of them are absolved from any unserved detentions due to their attendance on the cruise!

Submitted by: Don DeRosa DLS ’75

Carondelet extends its deepest gratitude to the incredible Class of 1975, who not only raised over $3,000 in their onboard auction in support of both Carondelet and De La Salle, but also organized a memorable joint reunion to celebrate their 50th anniversary.

Alumnae Spotlight:

Allison Barry ’15

From Carondelet to the White House: A Commitment to Service

Allison Barry ’15 credits her time at Carondelet with instilling a lifelong passion for social justice and public service. That foundation led her to pursue opportunities in government and advocacy, beginning with a college internship for Congressman Mark DeSaulnier, where she worked on education and labor policy. The experience illuminated how legislation tangibly impacts people’s lives, affirming her desire to work within government to create meaningful change.

Engagements and Weddings

Gabriella Grupalo ’14

Gabriella attended Cal Poly in San Luis Obispo, where she studied graphic design and played on the women’s basketball team. Through college athletics, she met her future husband, Josh, who played football for Cal Poly. The couple currently lives in San Luis Obispo with their dog, Goose, and loves taking advantage of the nearby beaches and beautiful hiking trails. Gabriella works in sales, and Josh coaches football at Cal Poly. They are happily planning their wedding for July 2025. They still find themselves connected to the Carondelet and De La Salle communities, attending events whenever they can.

Sarah Mazzetti ’17

After serving as Carondelet class president and captain of the lacrosse team, Sarah went on to attend Boston College, where she met her now fiancé, Peter Lagrotteria, on their very first day. They’ve been together ever since! The couple now lives in New York City, where Sarah works as a nurse and enjoys life in the city.

Kelley N. Morley ’17

Kelley is thrilled to announce her engagement to Luke Pfister. The two met while attending Gonzaga University and graduated together in 2021. They’ve since built a life in Seattle, where Kelley works as an ER nurse at a Level 1 Trauma Center. Luke recently earned his law degree from the University of Washington and now practices as a medical malpractice attorney. The couple was engaged on May 10 and is excited to embrace this next chapter together.

Rachel Ross ’17

After graduating from Carondelet, Rachel earned her undergraduate degree from the University of Colorado Boulder and her law degree from the University of Denver. She passed the UBE in Missouri in July 2024 and now works as Legal Counsel for Business Operations at the National Association of Insurance Commissioners (NAIC) in Kansas City. In August, Rachel got engaged to her high school sweetheart, Eric Headley DLS ’17, and they are planning their wedding for May 2026!

Nicole Jeffery Lally ’14

Kyle and Nicole met in 2011 in French class during high school. Their friendship lasted through college, despite the distance between Arizona and Alabama, and only grew stronger with time. In 2019, they both moved to San Francisco and started spending more time together. During a music festival in South Lake Tahoe, they confessed their feelings and officially began dating. In August 2023, Kyle proposed at Edgewood Resort in Tahoe, bringing their love story full circle. They were married on April 26, 2025, with a Catholic ceremony at the Carmel Mission Basilica, followed by a celebration at the Monterey Peninsula Country Club.

POWER OF HER

Dear Alumnae,

In January, Carondelet launched the public fundraising phase of our Power of Her Campaign to reimagine our original locker room into the Boscacci Performance Center. The project began in May!

We are thrilled and humbled by the enthusiastic response of this community, and grateful for those parents, alumnae, alumnae parents, grandparents, and friends who‘ve stepped up to invest in this effort. But there is still work to be done. We have less than $1 million to raise to reach our $3.5 million goal to complete the Performance Center and welcome students this coming fall—and we need your participation to do it!

Every single gift to this campaign makes an impact. Large or small, outright or multi-year pledge, via appreciated stock or donor-advised fund—your contributions matter and add up. And the message that broad community support sends to the young women of Carondelet is unmistakable; we believe in your potential and promise, we celebrate your dreams and achievements, and we empower your bright future.

We teach our students to be bold, to advocate for themselves, to ask questions, persist through challenges, and actively pursue their goals. We must model this behavior on their behalf and for their benefit. In that spirit, we invite your partnership. Join us in this exciting endeavor. Help us continue to raise the bar for these exceptional young women so they know how much they’re valued, and so they’re best positioned to share their extraordinary gifts with the world.

Give here. Reach out to our team to continue the conversation. Share the Power of Her with your family and friends, and networks. Many hands make light work, and we wouldn’t want to be in this with anyone else!

Gratefully,

Summer
