Volume 86| June 2025

Now, more than ever, the world needs strong, compassionate leaders.  Leaders that understand themselves, the needs of others, and the role that they can play in a better and more just world.

The St. Bon's approach of cura personalis - care for the whole person - helps develop children and youth into intelligent, grounded, and compassionate individuals with a strong sense of justice and the confidence and ability to lead in an ever-changing world.

Our investment in St. Bon's is not only an investment in our daughter's education, but also in an institution that plays a critical role in shaping the future of our province and beyond.

An investment in St. Bon's is an investment in a brighter future.

What's Happening at St. Bon's?

We have officially said goodbye to another incredible school year - one that was filled with learning, laughter, resilience, and unforgettable milestones and achievements. Before the halls got quiet, the classrooms were still, and summer break had officially begun, here is a look at what we were up to:

  • Grade 2 class attended our Annual Fairy Tale Ball to celebrate the conclusion of their fairy tale writing unit. Students arrived at school dressed as their favourite fairy tale character. There were lots of brave knights, kings and queens, beautiful princesses and of course, Prince Charming. Students watched a movie, made some themed crafts, and shared a delicious banquet together. After lunch, students danced the afternoon away. This day is usually a special memory of their Grade 2 year. We even had some Mullock Hall students drop by to reminisce about their Fairy Tale Ball many years ago.

  • Our SBC community gathered in the music filled gym as our Beginning Band and Concert Band took the stage for our second Spring Concert. Energy, talent, and teamwork were on full display. A big thanks to Mrs. Etchegary, our students, and their families for making the afternoon so special!

  • We held our second annual Take Me Outside Day, planned and organized by the wonderful ECO-Schools Committee! The students of the committee planned and executed three fabulous events to encourage outdoor learning, including a tour and hands-on planting activity in our very own greenhouse. Our resident bee experts taught the younger students all about beekeeping at our hive, and we also got our hands dirty with some nature art, where we decorated some hand-collected beach rocks to place around our beautiful campus. We could not be more proud of our group leaders and the wonderful job they did facilitating the event this year.

  • Our Grade 12 class enjoyed their final school retreat with a two day overnight experience. The Capstone Retreat brought Science, English, Theology, and Physical Education together for a meaningful Grade 12 experience. The students, with their teachers, reflected, hiked, ate in community, and enjoyed time as a class.

  • Grade 6 students celebrated their D.A.R.E. graduation, marking the completion of a program designed to empower them with the skills to make safe and responsible decisions. This milestone highlights their dedication to learning about resisting peer pressure, managing stress, and making healthy choices. A special thank you goes to Cst. Fitzgerald for his outstanding contributions, engaging lessons, and unwavering commitment to guiding our students through this valuable program. We are proud of our students’ achievements!

  • We celebrated our Kindergarten Graduation, marking a wonderful milestone for our youngest learners. The event was made even more emotional as our Grade 12 students walked the Kindergarten Graduates across the parking lot and up the aisle, symbolizing the incredible journey these students take at St. Bon’s. It was a heartwarming moment, seeing our youngest students just beginning their academic path while our Grade 12s prepare to complete theirs. Thank you to Ms. Isaacs for her dedication, creativity, and care in fostering a love of learning and guiding the children through a year full of growth and accomplishments. Thanks also to Ms. Gatherall for helping prepare the songs and music for the children.

  • Our Grade 2-3 students proudly presented their Passion Projects, showcasing an impressive array of topics that highlighted their creativity, dedication, and curiosity. The presentations were an incredible display of knowledge and accomplishment, with students confidently sharing their learning with parents and peers from all grades. It was inspiring to see the enthusiasm and hard work that went into each project. Congratulations to everyone!

  • Mayor Danny Breen visited our Grade 1 class as part of Read for the Environment, an initiative where City Council members visit first-grade classrooms across St. John's to teach students about the importance of caring for our shared planet. Teaching young students about environmental responsibility early on can have a lasting impact. Mayor Breen and the St. John's City Council have been involved in various environmental efforts, including sustainability and climate action. It's great to see them engaging directly with students to foster awareness and inspire future generations to care for the planet.🌍

  • We celebrated our Grade 6 classes with several events to mark their final days in Holland Hall. First, our Grade 6 classes met with Administration and their Grade 7 teachers to run through a day in the life of being in Grade 7. The importance of being organized, prepared and open to all the opportunities in Jr. High was discussed. A couple of days later, the Grade 6 classes walked across the parking lot to Mullock Hall and held a wonderful celebration in the gym. A photo booth, pizza, candy buffet, and an amazing slide show were some of the highlights. Congratulations to the Grade 6 students and their wonderful teachers, Ms. Bouzane and Ms. Tucker! Thank you for your contributions to Holland Hall.

  • The 2025 St. Bon’s Sports Day was a spectacular success, filled with thrilling competitions and unforgettable moments. The event kicked off with the Opening Ceremonies, which included a grand entrance and performance by our Wind Ensemble, followed by exciting long-distance races. Students participated in a variety of indoor and outdoor activities, including relay races, tug-of-war, and other exciting challenges. After lunch, the carnival experience stole the show, featuring bouncy castles, a giant inflatable slide, zorb ball, paintball target range, a pedestal joust, and a dunk tank. The day concluded with the Closing Ceremonies and Victor Ludorum Awards, celebrating outstanding performances and team spirit. Sports Day 2025 will surely be remembered as a highlight of the year! A big thank you to our Phys. Ed. Athletic Directors, Chris Bridon and Brianne Chafe, for creating and executing another memorable Sports Day, to our Band Director, Vincenza Etchegary, for preparing the Wind Ensemble, to our faculty and staff for all their assistance, to our incredible PA for coordinating lunch and snacks — each of your efforts helped make Sports Day a fantastic success! We also appreciate our amazing families who came to cheer on the festivities. Their support and enthusiasm helped make the day truly special.🏅🎉

  • We held our first ever Jerseys and Jams, a fantastic and memorable extension to Sports Day! Parents, friends and staff came together for an evening full of energy, community spirit, and celebration. Everyone showed off their favourite sports swag, enjoyed incredible live performances by Billy Hickey and Cripple Creek, and shared plenty of laughs with good company. With a cash bar, tasty snacks, and unforgettable music, it was the perfect way to wrap up the day—and a strong start to what’s sure to become a beloved tradition!

  • Our Grade 12 graduates capped off their high school journey with a week of unforgettable events, from Senior Sunrise , a BBQ, mocktails, Graduation Dinner, and Commencement. These celebrations honoured their perseverance, friendships, and growth, and set the stage for all that lies ahead. We’re proud of each of them and can’t wait to see the bright future they’ll help create.

End of Year Message

Congratulations to all our students on their many achievements this year—in academics, music, sports, the arts, and leadership. Their hard work, creativity, and growth have made us incredibly proud.

As we head into summer, we wish our entire community a season filled with rest and renewal. Take time to read for pleasure, move for the joy of it, wander through forests, wade into oceans, fish quiet ponds, sleep under starlit skies, and marvel at nature in all its splendour.
