Downtown Burlington is in full swing as the Jefferson Street Farmers Market continues its 2025 season. Organized by Downtown Partners, Inc., the market brings the community together every Thursday evening with local produce, handmade goods, fresh food, and live entertainment.
The month of June is sponsored by AIM Credit Union, whose support is helping to create an exceptional market experience. Shoppers, families, and friends are enjoying a great time Downtown, with something new to discover each week. From vibrant vendor booths to live performances and engaging family activities, the market is the place to be on Thursday nights.
The Jefferson Street Farmers Market runs every Thursday from 4:30 to 7:00 PM on Jefferson Street between 3rd and 6th Street. Guests can expect a wide variety of fresh fruits and vegetables, baked goods, honey, flowers, crafts, prepared meals, and much more. With the street closed to traffic, visitors are encouraged to stroll freely and explore everything the market has to offer.

Burlington River Days: Get Your All Access Pass
Burlington River Days kickoffs June 12, bringing three days of music, community events, and riverfront fun to Downtown Burlington. This year’s festivities include a full carnival, a boat parade and show, the River Days Olympics, and nightly live concerts, with national act Saliva headlining on Saturday.
For those looking to enhance their experience, the $40 All Access Pass offers a range of benefits:

On Sunday, June 15, 2025, from 9 AM to 4 PM, one of Burlington’s most beloved traditions returns: the Snake Alley Art Fair (SAAF) — a daylong celebration of creativity, community, and the visual arts set against the unforgettable backdrop of “The Crookedest Street in the World.”
What began over half a century ago as a small gathering of local artists has blossomed into a regional showcase of talent, attracting makers and art lovers from across the Midwest. Each artist at SAAF brings handmade, original work, ranging from fine art and sculpture to jewelry, pottery, textiles, and more. Visitors not only have the chance to purchase one-of-a-kind pieces but also to meet the artists, hear their stories, and connect with the creative spirit behind the work.

Pride Parade and Pride on the Riverfront

Pride On The Riverfront's mission is to create a safe, vibrant space where the LGBTQIA+ community and all allies can come together in celebration with delicious food, vendors, art, entertainment, fun and games! They aim to foster joy and connection while also shedding light on the suppression the LGBTQIA+ community continues to face.
Pride On The Riverfront is more than an event; it's a movement dedicated to creating a world where diversity is not only accepted but celebrated.
This family-friendly event will start with the parade down Jefferson Street starting at 10 AM. Follow the parade to the riverfront and enjoy vendors, food, drinks, fun and games, live speeches and performances and more!

Steamboat Senior Center Offers Weekly Activities and Summer Events
Located at 501 Jefferson Street, the Steamboat Senior Center continues to be a welcoming space for fun, games, and community connection for area seniors.
Regular weekly card games take place every Monday, Wednesday, Thursday, and Saturday beginning at 12:00 PM. Those interested in playing Monday bridge are encouraged to call Kay at 319-750-5901 for details.
On the second and fourth Tuesdays of each month, the center hosts White Elephant Bingo from 1:00 to 3:00 PM, offering a lighthearted and social gaming experience.
A special summer gathering is planned for Friday, June 28 from 11:00 AM to 3:00 PM, featuring the No Drama Gals. Attendees are invited to bring a dish for the potluck.
The center is closed to the public on Fridays and Sundays, but is available for private rentals. For more information or to reserve the space, call 319-470-3773.

Downtown Burlington had the honor of welcoming creatives, community leaders, and placemaking champions from across the state for the 2025 Iowa Creative Places Exchange. Held in the heart of our historic downtown, the event brought energy, inspiration, and meaningful dialogue to the streets of Burlington.
Attendees had the opportunity to explore completed and in-progress placemaking projects, gaining firsthand insight into how Burlington is leveraging the power of the arts and culture to strengthen community identity and drive economic growth.

Downtown Gets a Fresh Splash of Color
Downtown Burlington is looking brighter than ever, thanks to a dynamic collaboration with the 2024–2025 Greater Burlington Leadership Class, the City of Burlington, City of West Burlington, and Downtown Partners, Inc. Vibrant new banners now line the streets, bringing fresh energy and a cheerful welcome to the heart of our community.
That’s not all, boat buoys are making a creative splash in the 300 Block Alleyway! Designed by Ali Hval, the Art Center of Burlington and painted with help from community volunteers, these one-of-a-kind pieces are turning heads just in time for sunny strolls, shopping, and selfies.
Come cruise through downtown and see the transformation for yourself. It’s community. It’s creativity. It’s colorful—and it’s all happening now!

Main Street Challenge Grant Applications Now Open
Local Deadline: July 1
Downtown Burlington property owners have an exciting opportunity to receive up to $100,000 in funding for building improvement projects through the Main Street Challenge Grant.
Offered by the Iowa Economic Development Authority, this grant supports brick-and-mortar revitalization efforts in designated Main Street communities like Downtown Burlington. Eligible projects within the Downtown district may include façade improvements, building rehabilitations, adaptive reuse, or new construction.
Applications will be evaluated based on preservation standards, architectural significance, and overall community impact. Award amounts range from $25,000 to $100,000, and a minimum 1:1 cash match is required.
Local applications are due by July 1.

Downtown Partners, Inc. Business Signage Grant Program offers applicants up to $400 in matching grant funds for perpendicular “blade” signage for their businesses!
Blade signs have several benefits:
- Accentuating the traditional historic and walkable character of Downtown Burlington
- Emphasizing the Downtown district as a collection of small, independent, locally owned businesses
- Adding to the liveliness of the streetscape
- Freeing up sidewalk space occupied by sandwich board signs
- Encouraging businesses to explore their individuality and examine their branding
- Increasing business visibility for potential customers who would otherwise not know anything about the business unless they were directly in front of it
