Twinning of the Meadowvale North and Streetsville Transmission Mains

The Region of Peel has initiated a Study for the Twinning of the Meadowvale North and Streetsville Transmission Mains to meet the Region's growing water demands. As part of the Study, alternative routes for the new transmission mains are being examined. There are two sub-segments to this route: from Herridge Pumping Station to the Streetsville Reservoir, and from the Streetsville Pumping Station to the Meadowvale North Reservoir. The Study will explore solutions to provide water transmission capacity to service future community growth and development to 2051.

Two Public Information Centres (PICs) will be held during the Study period to obtain input from the public for consideration by the Region. The first PIC is planned for Fall 2025 to present the alternative routes, evaluation, and recommended route. Once the Study is complete, an Environmental Study Report will be prepared and made available for comment. More information will be provided when the PIC is scheduled. For more info, visit the Region’s construction projects website.

Peel Transition Implementation Act

As you may know, the Province has re-introduced the Peel Transition Implementation Act, which if passed, would transfer jurisdiction over regional roads — including related stormwater infrastructure — from Peel Region to Mississauga, Brampton and Caledon. The Act would also transfer jurisdiction over waste collection from Peel Region to the three lower-tier municipalities.

Regional roads and related stormwater infrastructure would transfer from Peel Region to Mississauga, Brampton and Caledon on July 1, 2026. Waste collection services would transfer from Peel Region to Mississauga, Brampton and Caledon on January 1, 2026. The Ontario Legislature is on summer break and will resume again in mid-October, when this legislation will be voted upon.

Mississauga Hospital Local Share Contribution

As you may know, on May 28, 2025, City Council unanimously approved a motion from Mayor Carolyn Parrish to provide a municipal contribution towards Trillium Health Partners’ local share for the construction of The Peter Gilgan Mississauga Hospital and the Shah Family Hospital for Women and Children.

The $390 million contribution will be paid by January 1, 2033, with details on the terms of payment to be finalized during 2026 Budget discussions. The funds for the hospital contribution will be provided through an annual hospital levy of up to 1% per year, and the issuance of a debenture to cover any remaining shortfalls. It is anticipated that the annual 1% hospital levy will begin in 2028, after the current 1% levy for the Public Safety Fire Program (initially levied in 2019) expires; the hospital levy will expire in 2033, after the new hospital is completed.

As you may also know, I brought forward a motion to Council in October 2024 requesting that Council decline the initial Mississauga Hospital local share contribution request of $450 million; the Province waive the requirement for the City to contribute to the local share; and the Province contribute a larger amount to this project, as healthcare is under Provincial jurisdiction. Unfortunately, the Province did not support these requests. Council’s approval of the funding comes after lengthy negotiations with the Province, which has resulted in the City’s local share contribution being reduced by $60 million from the original request of $450 million.

The demand for health care services provided by Trillium Health Partners is expected to increase by nearly seven times more than the average hospital in Ontario. The Peter Gilgan Mississauga Hospital and the Shah Family Hospital for Women and Children is the largest hospital project in Canadian history and is critical to meeting the healthcare needs of residents in our rapidly growing city, as well as in Peel Region and West Toronto. Maintain Storm Drains to Reduce Flooding

Homeowners are responsible for keeping the drains on their property clear to prevent flooding. This includes checking that they aren’t blocked in any way that would prevent water from entering the stormwater system.

It is important to keep a backyard storm drain clear of any debris or other obstructions to allow water in nearby backyards to drain away properly after a rainfall. Pooling water in your backyard may indicate that there could be a backyard storm drain that has been obstructed. Inspecting the area near your property lines may reveal a storm drain that is in need of clearing. Check the lowest points along the rear of your property for storm drain inlets and remove any debris, structures or gardens that obstruct the flow of water.

Always include good grading and drainage when planning for landscaping projects, like installing a swimming pool or retaining walls on your property. Property grading was approved when your home was originally built and changing grading without professional guidance can increase the risk of flooding on your property and neighbouring properties. Click here for more information about maintaining your storm drains.

E-Fishing in Levi Creek

As you may know, I now serve on the Credit Valley Conservation Board of Directors. CVC is a community-based environmental organization, dedicated to protecting, restoring and managing the natural resources of the Credit River Watershed. I’m excited to serve on the CVC Board and be part of the great work they do in Ward 11, Mississauga and Peel. As you may also know, the CVC’s head office is on Old Derry Rd, in historic Meadowvale Village, adjacent to the beautiful Meadowvale Conservation Area.

On June 6th, I was able to participate in an important watershed monitoring activity in Levi Creek, which is e-fishing. It was a very interesting and informative experience and I look forward to participating in more of the important work that they do to protect our watershed. E-fishing is part of the CVC’s Integrated Watershed Monitoring Program (IWMP), a long-term monitoring program that reports on the health of ecosystems in the Credit River Watershed to understand how healthy our watershed is, whether conditions in our ecosystems are improving, deteriorating or stable and what actions need to be taken to protect our watershed. Cycling Master Plan

Whether you’re someone who rides a bicycle regularly, are new to cycling or are thinking of getting on a bicycle, you can help shape the future of cycling in Mississauga. The City is updating its Cycling Master Plan and is looking for your input. The Cycling Master Plan is a long-term plan that maps out the City’s goals for designing and implementing cycling infrastructure and programs in Mississauga. The plan’s goals aim to make cycling safer and more comfortable, build a more accessible cycling network and encourage cycling as a part of a healthy lifestyle.

A survey and mapping tool will be available until Sunday, July 6 for you to share your input. You’ll be able to share your thoughts on what actions the City can take to improve cycling in Mississauga. Take the survey. You can also learn more at the pop up at Wednesday, June 25 – Meadowvale Community Centre

Climate Change Action Plan

The City is updating its 10-year Climate Change Action Plan (CCAP), originally developed in 2019. The update will explore opportunities to strengthen the City’s approach to reducing fossil fuel pollution, by setting stronger, more ambitious targets more closely aligned with the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change’s recommendations to limit global warming to 1.5 degrees Celsius.

Visit the Updating the Climate Change Action Plan webpage to share your input and sign up for email updates about upcoming events and project milestones.

Ivandale Dr Neighbour’s Night Out

On June 12th I was very pleased to join the Ivandale Dr community and Peel Police for their Operation Clean Sweep and Neighbour’s Night Out BBQ. Ivandale Dr has a great community of neighbours who work together to keep their community safe and clean. We also had a great discussion together about community safety issues. You can read the Ivandale Dr community newsletter to learn more about this great group of neighours.

If you haven’t already done so, I strongly encourage you and your neighbours to start or join a Neighbourhood Watch today, as a way of making your community a safer place. Neighbourhood Watch is an organized group of neighbours looking out for one another, and each other’s property. The no-cost program focuses on neighbourhood transparency, and encourages residents to be aware of crime and suspicious activity that may be happening around them. Ward 11 has many active Neighbourhood Watch groups, so join your neighbours and start a Neighbourhood Watch today.

Project Outsource

Peel Regional Police, as part of a Joint Force Operation with local and provincial law enforcement partners, have recovered more than $4.2 million in assets following the dismantling of an organized criminal network linked to the towing industry.

In July 2024, Project Outsource was launched to investigate a criminal organization believed to be behind a significant number of extortion incidents and related acts of violence. As the investigation progressed, it became clear that the criminal network operated with two distinct, but interconnected components: one dedicated to extortion and violence, and the other rooted in the towing industry.

Several suspects were found to be associated with towing companies operating under the names Certified Roadside and Humble Roadside. Investigators uncovered evidence that these individuals were engaged in insurance fraud by staging vehicle collisions, and using threats, assaults, and firearms to exert control over local towing operations. 18 individuals have been arrested and charged in connection with the investigation. Read the full news update.

Project Pelican

Peel Regional Police, working with national and international partners, have dismantled a transnational organized criminal network trafficking illicit drugs into the Greater Toronto Area (GTA). The investigation, Project Pelican, marks the largest drug seizure in the service’s history – with nearly $50 million worth of cocaine seized.

In June 2024, Peel Regional Police began investigating a cocaine smuggling operation using U.S.-Canada commercial trucking routes. By November, working with partners including the Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA), the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration, and U.S. Homeland Security Investigations Border Enforcement Task Force in Detroit, multiple individuals, trucking companies, and storage sites linked to the operation were identified. 9 individuals were arrested and charged in connection with the investigation, totalling 35 charges related to firearm and drug offences.
