Remembering Our Founding Chair, William B. McHenry (1929-2025)

We are deeply saddened by the passing of William Barnabas McHenry, the founding chairman of the Hudson River Valley Greenway. Barney was a visionary leader and passionate advocate for the Hudson Valley where he played a pivotal role in establishing the Greenway as a champion of connecting communities, preserving natural and cultural resources, and enhancing public access. His guidance and commitment to the Greenway helped establish critical partnerships and fostered a shared vision that continues to serve as a bedrock for our work today. We are honored to carry forward his legacy. 

New Trail Connector Opens in New Paltz with Greenway Support

A long-anticipated trail connection in the heart of New Paltz is now open, offering pedestrians and cyclists a safer, more scenic route as part of the Empire State Trail. The Hudson River Valley Greenway provided $350,000 in Empire State Trail funding to help bring the project to life.

"Community-led projects like the Henry W. DuBois Greenway are shining examples of collaboration in action," said Andy Kitzmann, Executive Director of the Greenway. "We're proud to support efforts that make the Hudson Valley a better place for everyone." Read more.
