| | | | | IMPORTANT: About Twilight Dinners | | |
We look forward to having Twilight Dinners again this season on Monday evenings and appreciate everyone who is hosting, grilling, and volunteering at the dinners. Check-In and Happy Hour Mix & Mingle will begin at 6PM, and dinner will start at 6:30PM.
Please note the following changes discussed at the annual POA meeting last September that will help us keep events affordable and make it easier for both volunteers and attendees.
RSVPs to events are via website sign up only at MountainGlenPOA.org. There will no longer be sign-up sheets by the mailboxes. Dinners are listed on the Mountain Glen POA calendar on the website.
The easiest way to RSVP is to follow the links provided in the newsletter. If you need a website refresher on how to RSVP online, please contact Joan at 817-235-4447 and she can walk you through it, or pick up a hard copy of instructions from Devan in the office, or you can use this link to access a digital copy of RSVP (and cancellation) instructions.
RSVP deadlines will be by noon on the Thursday before the Monday dinner. This is non-negotiable; the caterers need an exact headcount for planning. To keep our price per person the same while food prices have risen, we can no longer cover the costs of no-shows. If you sign up for a dinner and don’t cancel before the Thursday noon deadline, you will be responsible for the charged price of the event.
There will be 13 Twilight Dinners this season (vs. 16 last year) due to the challenge of recruiting volunteers to help with set up and clean up and continued increasing costs of food and supplies.
There will be no Twilight Dinner on the last Monday of the month. We encourage a friendly casual gathering on the back deck after golf as long as the clubhouse is not reserved. Sign-ups are not required as it is not scheduled, but feel free to bring any food, paper supplies, and drinks you and friends might enjoy. You will be resonsible for your own clean up. We will only use the deck; there will be no use of the clubhouse, kitchen, or bathroom.
For scheduled dinner events, prices will stay the same at $20 per person for catered meals, $10 per person for cookouts, and $5 per person for potluck dinners.

| Hurricane Helene Clean Up | |
In the months since Hurricane Helene devastated our area last September, a lot has been done to clear our roads and the road right-of-ways in Mountain Glen. With volunteer help from our neighbors, some assistance from FEMA, and help from hired contractors, we now have only a few areas along the road right-of-ways in Mountain Glen that still need debris removal. We plan to wait several months before using our road funds for additional clean-up as we continue to pursue support from FEMA and/or North Carolina Disaster Recovery. We appreciate your continued patience as we complete road right-of-way debris removal.
We no longer have Spectrum or Mountain Electric lines down. Mountain Electric still has a few downed power poles and transformers to pick up and it may be several months before they get to Mountain Glen to handle remaining clean-up. If there are any remaining lines down by your property please contact AT&T at 800-288-2020.
For those of you still needing assistance with clean-up on your property there may be sources of support through FEMA and North Carolina Disaster Recovery. For FEMA assistance you may call 1-800-621-FEMA (3362) or contact them at disasterassistance.gov, disaster #4827. For assistance from North Carolina Disaster Recovery call 844-746-2326 or contact them at ncdps.gov/helene/dcm. North Carolina Disaster will also have staff available at Mayland Community College in Newland Monday through Friday from 8 to 5 through the end of May.
As you handle clean-up on your property, please remember DO NOT LEAVE ANY DEBRIS ALONG THE ROAD. THIS INCLUDES BLOWN LEAVES. We need to keep the right-of-ways along the road clear to ensure proper drainage.

| Hurricane Golf Course Clean Up | |
It is believed that a mini-tornado blew through the golf course and surrounding homes, based on both the path and the extent of the damage to the area. Many trees were downed (mostly on the periphery of holes), along with tree debris, and the maintenance building was destroyed. The grounds crew has worked very hard to get the course in good shape for the season. Countless hours have been spent cutting, hauling, and burning trees and debris. The ground crew is currently in the process of replacing the maintenance building. The bridge on hole #2 will also need repairing at the conclusion of this season.
To those not here in the aftermath of the storm, it is virtually impossible to comprehend how much work was done by the grounds crew on the golf course.
The same is true of a small group of neighbors who were here that worked tirelessly to help cut and clear the roads in the Mountain Glen community of trees to allow residents to enter and leave, while also dealing with cleaning up their personal properties. We owe gratitude to all who have helped restore Mountain Glen post-Hurricane Helene.
