Dear JPII Families and Friends,

As we close out another incredible school year at John Paul II Center, I find myself reflecting with gratitude and pride on all we’ve accomplished together this spring.

A Joyous Graduation

We recently celebrated our graduates, Alex, Amelia, and Nathaniel; with a heartfelt ceremony that captured the spirit and mission of our school. Each student was recognized for their unique gifts, hard work, and growth throughout their time with us. The joy on their faces—and those of their families—was truly moving. We are so proud of all they’ve achieved and excited to see what the future holds for them. Make sure to watch the video (shared below)!

Honoring Mary – Our May Crowning

Our annual May Crowning was a beautiful expression of our Catholic faith. Students and staff came together, with Father Bortz, to honor the Blessed Mother with flowers, prayer, and song. This tradition serves as a powerful reminder of the values of compassion, peace, and devotion that we aim to instill in our students every day.

Our Adult Program on the Move!

The adults in our program have been out and about in the community, growing in independence and gaining valuable real-world experiences. Whether they’re visiting local businesses, volunteering, or exploring recreational activities, they’re building essential life skills and having a great time doing it!

Time Is Running Out – Fundraiser Reminder

We’re nearing the end of our school year fundraiser, and there’s still time to help us reach our goal! Every contribution—large or small—goes directly toward enhancing the programs and resources that support our incredible students and adults. If you haven’t yet had a chance to participate, please consider doing so. Let’s finish strong together! Click here to donate!

Looking Ahead: ESY Plans

Extended School Year (ESY) planning is well underway! Our summer program will begin soon and will offer a wonderful balance of academics, life skills, and fun summer activities. We look forward to continuing our students’ progress while keeping them engaged in a nurturing and structured environment. Through the support of our donors, every student who wants to attend ESY can at no cost to the families.

Thank you all for your continued support and partnership. This community is truly something special, and I’m grateful every day to be part of it.

Wishing you a safe, sunny, and blessed start to your summer!

Warm regards,

Kaylee Simcik

May Crowning

May 7 was a gorgeous day to celebrate Mary! Our May procession was led by Father Bortz from St. Ignatius Loyola Roman Catholic Church and flowers were provided by our JPII Board Sunshine committee. What a beautiful day to rejoice!

JPII Girls Talk visits the DoubleTree

On May 16, our JPII Girls Talk Club enjoyed a special luncheon courtesy of the DoubleTree By Hilton Reading. They had reserved seating, chose from a special menu, and learned about restaurant etiquette from Mrs. Berkhammer. Everyone had a great time, and thanks to the continued support from Power of the Purse in Berks County, we look forward to next year's events!

Adult Program Activities

May's activities for our Adult Program included a visit to the Pagoda, game time at the center, and a walk at the Exeter Community Library's Story Walk!

You Can Create a JPII Scholarship as Easily as 1 2 3!

Turning your PA state taxes into JPII scholarships is as easy as 1 2 3. Does line 12 of your PA Income Tax Return show a $3,000+ PA tax liability? If yes, you can participate!

Through the Educational Improvement Tax Credit (EITC) program, donors can receive up to a 90% tax credit against their personal PA state tax liability by making their gift through this program. When making the gift, simply state that you would like to designate your funds for John Paul II Center for Special Learning and you’ve created a scholarship as easy as 123!

Through JPII’s partnership with King of Prussia-based BLOCS, an individual or company who wishes to take advantage of this tax-credit program may become a member of a BLOCS Scholarship LLC (“LLC”) with a 2-year commitment to fund the LLC. These credits will be distributed to each member via K-1 and are then applied to your PA tax liability for the tax year in which the donation is made.

Last year, JPII provided over $1.3 million in scholarships and financial aid to JPII families, which covers 96% of their tuition.

To learn more about how you can direct your tax dollars to help JPII students while receiving a 90% tax credit, please contact Melissah Jablonski at mjablonski@johnpauliicenter.org.
