Thanks to a Field Empowerment Fund grant from the National Community Reinvestment Coalition, Melrose Garden is hosting a new season of free public programs that promote hands-on learning, community wellness, and herbal education. Two of our partners, Natural Flo and Ocotillo Herbals, are bringing this garden to life with immersive outdoor workshops. Plus, our third partner, Cincinnati Birth Center, is offering an inspiring women's wellness series just a short distance away. We’re proud to support this growing movement for community-rooted wellness.

Flo's Little Gardeners: These are nature based workshops for families to dig in, create, and grow together. On June 28th, families will explore composting and handmade paper. On July 26th, participants will craft nature-inspired sun catchers. On August 23rd, join for a garden-to-snack family day! Ocotillo Herbals: Join herbalist-led classes to explore the world of healing plants, create your own take-home remedies, and deepen your relationship with nature.

On July 19th, join for an in-depth look at calendula (Calendula officinalis). Attendees will learn about the medicinal properties and how to harvest & dry calendula flowers. Participants will discuss the plant’s botanical structures and examine calendula seeds under a magnifying glass. Come observe a calendula oil infusion demo and sample various topical applications of calendula-containing herbal products. Each attendee will take home their very own calendula seeds to plant in their garden

On August 27th, explore culinary sage (Salvia officinalis) and its medicinal properties. Attendees will learn how to harvest and dry sage, while deepening their understanding of its botanical structures. Everyone will receive a handout with recipes that highlight sage as an ingredient and enjoy a snack of sage potatoes. Each attendee will make their own herbal bundle to take home and hang in their kitchen.

Cincinnati Birth Center: These monthly workshops offer holistic wellness practices, ancestral knowledge, and healing arts for women of all life stages. Register for a session on July 12th on how to build healthy habits and organize your home. September 6th in Movement 101 is designed to teach the importance of movement within the body. On October 18th you can join a class on how to understand your menstrual cycle for your overall health and prepare for family planning.
