Is It Time for a Check-Up?

Your Health and Your Church’s Health Matter

Each year, most of us are encouraged to schedule an annual physical. These check-ups help us catch small issues before they become big problems. They give us a picture of our overall health, provide insight into what’s going well, and offer advice on what needs attention. It’s a wise and proactive step toward long-term health.

But what about your church?

Just as our bodies need regular assessment, so do our churches. Ministry can sometimes get so busy with Sunday services, programs, and events that we miss signs of fatigue, imbalance, or dysfunction in the body of Christ. A church check-up helps us evaluate where we are, how we’re doing, and where God might be leading us next.

Here are a few questions to consider for a quick church health check-up:

Spiritual Health – Are we growing in discipleship, prayer, and biblical engagement?

Missional Focus – Are we reaching out beyond our walls with the gospel and acts of love?

Leadership Development – Are we raising up and equipping leaders for the future?

Unity and Fellowship – Is our church family marked by love, grace, and connection?

Vision Alignment – Are we still moving in the direction God has called us?

Just like a doctor’s visit, a church check-up isn’t about guilt—it’s about growth. It’s a chance to celebrate what’s healthy and make adjustments where needed, all for the sake of greater faithfulness and fruitfulness.

As we head into the second half of the year, let’s commit to checking in—both personally and as a church body. Contact me if you would like a more comprehensive Church Health Assessment, and if I can assist as you develop a strategy. Let’s pursue health together so that we can pursue Christ more fully.

Serve Tour Corpus – A Day of Mission and Compassion

On Saturday, May 17th, the CCBA partnered with the SBTC and NAMB to host Serve Tour Corpus—a one-day initiative mobilizing CCBA churches to be on mission throughout our city. Five of our churches led Compassion Projects, and over 100 volunteers from within our association and across Texas joined together for a powerful day of service.

Projects included building a wheelchair ramp, painting at a local Recovery Center, hosting a community block party, distributing movie night bags, engaging children with a bubble outreach, serving free coffee through a mobile coffee truck, and leading a sports camp. Each event was intentionally designed to meet practical needs, build relationships, and create opportunities to show and share the love of Christ—praying for gospel conversations along the way.

We are committed to continuing efforts like this. When we serve our city with compassion and consistency, we earn the opportunity to share with them the life-changing hope of the gospel.

On January 7, 2025, a critical bill, known as the “Clergy Act”, was introduced in Congress that could significantly impact your retirement. GuideStone® has been advocating for the Clergy Act’s passage this year, championing its benefits for ministers. If passed, this legislation would establish an opportunity for ministers who previously opted out of Social Security to opt back in beginning in 2026.

Social Security plays a vital role in building financial resilience during retirement, so we are preparing to guide ministers through the opt-in process should the Clergy Act pass.

We encourage you to learn more at GuideStone.com/ClergyAct, where we will share important updates on this legislation.
