June has begun and we experienced our first “hot” day yesterday. It was fitting that summer staff were hard at work at Silver Lake putting the designated swimming area ropes in place for the grand opening next Saturday. If you haven’t gotten your Parks ID card and season pass yet, please read further down in the newsletter to learn how to do so.
I want to thank the American Legion Fox-Eklof Post 505 and 2nd Vice Commander Don Daubney for once again hosting a dignified and moving Memorial Day ceremony on May 25. More than 100 people attended to remember and honor those who have made the ultimate sacrifice for our country. I also want to thank the Village staff who made the 37th annual Summerfest a resounding success this past Sunday, June 1, especially our business and community liaison, Laurie Weisz, our entire DPW staff and those police officers who worked the event. Grand Street and Old Post Road South were teeming with residents and visitors enjoying all that Croton has to offer. I especially enjoyed the pretzel vendor, who was a new addition this year! I am sure many of you, like me, are already looking forward to next year’s event!
The Village Board of Trustees will be holding a public hearing on June 25 at 7 p.m. at the Stanley H. Kellerhouse Municipal Building to consider Local Law Introductory No. 4 of 2025 to repeal and replace Chapter 208, Trees, of the Village Code. This local law is the culmination of a lengthy process to update our provisions to ensure the protection of trees on public property as well as on private property. Included in this proposed law are regulations on the replacement of trees removed on private property and a provision to increase the existing penalty for the illegal removal of, or injury to, trees. I encourage interested residents to attend the public hearing and share your thoughts on this proposed local law.
Some quick updates regarding other projects in the Village:

Dobbs Park: The Recreation Advisory Committee will be meeting on Monday, June 9, to review the latest design plan for the Dobbs Park playground and basketball court. Thank you to the 60+ residents who took the time to share their thoughts on the initial design earlier this spring.

Project MOVER E-Bikeshare Program: The Village will be holding a public hearing on June 12 to adopt enabling legislation which allows the program to operate in the Village. The program is expected to rollout in early July; further information will be shared once available.
- Route 9A: NYSDOT is planning to begin paving the southern stretch of North Riverside Avenue the week of June 15, weather-permitting. There will be no overnight parking permitted on North Riverside while milling and paving is taking place. Signs will be posted and notices sent out once the schedule is confirmed.
