Dallas ISD District 1 Newsletter – June 2025 Recap

Note: Please see our website for Spanish version which will be available in a few days.

We’ve reached the end of the year. Students and teachers are hopefully enjoying a well-earned summer break.

Before recapping our final board meetings and end of year news, I want to take a moment to mourn the terrible losses suffered in the Hill Country. I cannot imagine the pain and anguish families are experiencing from those lost as we still work to recover the missing. I’m not sure any words I can give would provide comfort, but please know that each person lost and those that remain are loved. I am praying for those impacted and for the emergency search teams still working in dangerous conditions. And if you can do more, please consider supporting the many organizations working for flood relief and long-term rebuilding (e.g., Kerr County Relief Fund).

Below are your Dallas ISD updates for June 2025. And if you know of others that would appreciate this newsletter, they can sign up at www.lancecurrie.com/newsletter

Dallas ISD Updates

Great Academic Progress: Dallas ISD’s preliminary STAAR results showed the district exceeded the State in 80% of the sixty category measures. One particular bright spot is that Dallas ISD grew performance in grades 3-8 by 5% in just one year. By investing in early learning, implementing rigorous high-quality curriculum across the district, and paying teachers based on their effectiveness, Dallas ISD has nearly doubled the number of students meeting expectations at grade level. There is still much work to be done to get students where they need to be. But we remain committed to further improving student outcomes and closing gaps so that all students can graduate with the tools to live the lives they want to lead.

Campus Satisfaction & Teacher Retention: Spring campus climate survey results showed high levels of staff satisfaction, with positive and improving response levels since 2017. Most important, the Dallas ISD teacher retention rate for 2025 is at 93% vs. the State’s 79%.

Nathan Adams Elementary Rated “A” in 2022-23: For reasons beyond the scope of this note, we did not learn TEA’s official ratings for our schools from the 2022-23 school year until May 2025. Turns out, Nathan Adams was rated “A”! This is an incredible accomplishment, and it needs to be celebrated even if it is belated. Congratulations to the teachers and students for their incredible hard work. (PS – I’m hopeful we can celebrate another District 1 school’s “A” rating when official scores come out for 2024-25. Cross your fingers!)
