Reedy River Meadow Volunteer
Work Day #3 and #4
| | |
On the mornings of June 5 and June 18, FoRR hosted two more volunteer work days at Reedy River Meadow, our newest riparian improvement project. Guided by Earth Design Landscape Architecture and Environmental Design, volunteers helped remove invasive, non-native, and undesirable plants from the site’s “Naturalized Edge” zone.
We had a great turnout for each event and sincerely appreciate all of the hard work from our wonderful volunteers. Whether it was through sweat or storms, you showed up and made it happen. Volunteer efforts are making a valuable difference in restoring this riparian meadow— we hope you're all just as excited as we are to watch this project bloom! Our next volunteer work day will be held on Friday, July 18. See the “Upcoming Events” section above for more details!
If you haven’t had a chance to volunteer at RRM yet, you can still make a meaningful impact! A donation to FoRR will help us continue removing invasive plants, plant native species to create pollinator habitat and improve stormwater runoff and turn this unused area into an educational community centerpiece. Every contribution—big or small—makes a difference!

Our River, Ours to Protect -
Presentation at Greenville County Library Ramsey Family Branch
| | |
Friends of the Reedy River recently presented at the Augusta Road Ramsey Family Branch of Greenville County Library to a group of 12 curious patrons, sharing the history, challenges, and ongoing efforts to protect and restore this vital waterway. From pollution to preservation, attendees learned how they can make a difference right in their own backyard. A great discussion flowed just like the river itself—informative, engaging, and full of purpose!
This speaking engagement was made all the more special thanks to Kerry Black, a former FoRR Summer Fellow from Summer 2024 who has gone on to graduate from Furman University and now works with the Greenville County Library System! Thanks to Kerry for making this fun evening possible.

On the Road - American Legion
| | On June 24, FoRR brought the fog caps (literally) to American Legion Post #25 Laurens with a presentation on the past, present, and future of the Reedy River. From tales of the river's industrial saga to its current Reedy River Meadow, thanks to cleanups, native plants and lots of mulch, it was all covered. Even stormwater was made to sound exciting. The crowd shared stories and asked great questions and hopefully left with a little more river knowledge than when they arrived. | | |

Front Page News
June 27, 2025 will go down in history, or at least in our scrapbook, as the day FoRR made the front page of the Greenville Journal. Yes, that's right, page one! The Reedy River Meadow project got its big spotlight, and let's just say, we're very excited. This article celebrates our efforts in turning an overgrown, once forgotten patch of riverfront into what will one day be a blooming, buzzing testament to what's possible when you give nature and a group of 23 determined volunteers a chance. Read about FoRR making the news!
RRM gets a shoutout in this weekly update from City of GVL’s Instagram feed (at the 2- minute mark). Check out Reedy River Meadow on Instagram

May and June
Pangaea Dunk Tank/Profit-Share
| | |
At Pangaea Brewery, they don’t just believe in good beer and good food, they believe in doing good, too. When the restaurant thrives, so should the community around it. The spirit of giving back was on full display in May and June, as the team poured their hearts, and pints, into supporting Friends of the Reedy River through two months of profit sharing.
Whether it was helping someone discover their favorite new brew, serving the perfect slice, playing a lively game of bingo, or even celebrating Pangaea’s 4th birthday with a dunk booth and a whole lot of wet board members.
Pangaea’s love for its customers and its community that ripples all over Greenville. And thanks to their generosity, so do the benefits.
