 Hello Nancy,

From the Pastor

God determines the number of stars and calls them each by name. —Psalm 147.4

Dear friends in Christ,

“Sprummer” is finally here, and I am gobsmacked by the lusciousness and sheer variety of colors—every leafy growing thing is putting on its finery. Sure, people get excited about fall, but Creator is putting on quite a show right now in early June.

I see a spiritual director once a month (because even pastors need pastors), and last week she read me a line from a poem that ended this way: “God is dreaming your joy.” Even when you are facing hard times—maybe especially when you are facing hard times—it’s good to look up and take a joy break if you can.

As an aid to your joy, Bethesda and Immanuel congregations are offering some awesome events this summer. Feel free to get blessed and/or splashed at the Blessing of the Fleet on Sunday the 1st, starting at 1 pm. Then, on June 22, we will again worship jointly with First Lutheran, Port Wing, and Messiah Lutheran, Washburn. We meet at the Town of Bell community center in Cornucopia at 10:30, and after service we’ll have a picnic. The southern churches will provide hamburgers, sides, and salads, while our congregations are requested to bring drinks, desserts, and condiments (including lettuce and tomato-type condiments).

In July, plan to stop by Immanuel for a sundae or root beer float after worship on Sunday the 6th. Bethesda’s fish fry is scheduled for Friday, July 25 at 7 pm. And on August 24th, Bethesda will host the annual joint picnic with Immanuel at Little Sand Bay park beginning at 3. Bring a dish to pass, and plan to stay for Holden Evening Prayer with Dan Clark.

In between all these events, we will continue to worship together and be about the work of the church in our communities. Remember that you are held in the arms of God who is crazy about you. Happy summer.

Yours in Christ,

Pastor Connie

The funeral will be followed by a light luncheon in the parish hall, and then we will be proceeding to Scandia Cemetery (nextdoor to the Glensheen Mansion on Lake Superior) and interring Dad's ashes next to Mother's in our family plot.

The BRICK’s Food Shelf Program focuses on providing a wide variety of food options in a range of forms (fresh, frozen, canned) to program participants. At times, some of the items we offer are not available through our usual donations network. This means we either need to purchase those products or go without. YOU can help out to ensure that the Food Shelf Program has a wide variety of nutritious foods to offer pantry shoppers. Throughout May The BRICK is asking for donations of commercially canned tomato products, including whole, diced, and sauce. (Please no home canned goods.)  At the end of the month, please connect with our Food Shelf Manager Amaris Shrider to drop off your donation. Reach her by phone at 715-682-7425 ext. 3 or by email at foodshelfmanager@thebrickministries.org. Thank you for your support!
