We are excited to share that the airport has been awarded a $130,000 FAA grant through Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act funding to support improvements to the Airport’s Federal Contract Tower.

The City of San Marcos is also contributing $50,000 toward the project, bringing the total investment in tower facility improvements to $180,000.

Our tower plays an important role in keeping aircraft moving safely and efficiently at HYI. As airport activity continues to grow, it is important that the facilities supporting air traffic operations keep pace with that growth.

This project will include several important behind-the-scenes improvements, including HVAC, lighting, plumbing, grounding, and equipment upgrades. While these may not be the most visible projects on the airfield, they are critical to the long-term functionality, safety, and reliability of the tower and the air traffic services it provides.

We are especially grateful to Congressman Michael Cloud for his support of the grant application. His letter of support helped highlight the importance of this project and HYI’s growing role in the Central Texas aviation system.

This award is another meaningful step forward for San Marcos Regional Airport and will help ensure that the infrastructure supporting our air traffic operations remains safe, reliable, and ready for the future.

To help us respond to maintenance and repair needs as efficiently as possible, all maintenance requests should be submitted through the airport office rather than made verbally to staff in the field.

We know it is easy to catch a member of our team while they are out on the airfield or around the hangars, but verbal requests can be difficult to track, prioritize, and follow up on.

Before submitting a request, tenants are encouraged to review their lease agreement to confirm which maintenance items are their responsibility. If you are unsure, we are happy to help review the issue and point you in the right direction.

For maintenance requests or questions, please email info@flysanmarcos.com. To help us respond quickly, please include the hangar or property address, a clear description of the issue, and photos when appropriate.

This process helps ensure that requests are documented, routed correctly, and addressed as efficiently as possible. Thank you for helping us keep airport maintenance organized and responsive.

Congratulations to Roger Sharp, who was recently honored with the FAA’s Wright Brothers Master Pilot Award. The award was presented on May 13 in recognition of Roger’s decades of dedication, professionalism, and commitment to aviation.

The Wright Brothers Master Pilot Award is the most prestigious award the FAA issues to pilots. It recognizes individuals who have demonstrated exemplary aviation expertise and professionalism for at least 50 years of piloting experience or combined piloting and aviation operations experience.

Roger has had an incredible military career and continues to serve the aviation community as a Designated Pilot Examiner here on the field. He is also a tenant at San Marcos Regional Airport and serves as a member of our Airport Advisory Board.

We are grateful for the wealth of knowledge, experience, and expertise Roger brings to our airport community. Please join us in congratulating him on this outstanding and well-deserved recognition!
