Healthier Men: Healthier Communities | | |
June is Men’s Health Month, and this year’s campaign recognizes that men’s health is shaped by their relationships, support systems, education, workplaces, and community.
It’s a time to raise awareness, share education, and encourage proactive conversations about health, including mental health.
Sadly, we know that symptoms of poor mental health in men can be overlooked or mischaracterized, and that men die by suicide at rates four times higher than women and account for 80% of suicides in the U.S.
| Read this timely article from NAMI, around Men’s Health Month or sign up for a Question, Persuade, Refer (QPR) suicide prevention course taught by our certified instructor, Seth Kosanovich. Because suicide prevention, like Men’s Health, is everybody’s business. | | | | |

| | Welcome Summer Associates & Interns | |
Summer is often the time we host Service & Learning positions, and this year we’ve welcomed a record 14 staff to our team!
As part of their educational, career, or AmeriCorps VISTA Summer Associate service goals, young adults join us in delivering programs for people of all ages and supporting a variety of summer activities with our organization.
Their contributions:
-
Allow us to offer new programs, like Find What Moves You!
-
Expand our services, including providing weekly health education check-ins with Thrive Rx participants.
-
Help us participate in a variety of community events happening in the summer months and put on our annual Concrete Youth Activity Day.
In addition to increasing our capacity to offer 50+ programs promoting health and wellbeing at every stage of life, summer staff receive training, mentorship, and a solid foundation of experiences to inform their next steps: a win-win for our community and the public health workforce!
