Work at the new South Kingstown High School continues to move along, with the project staying on schedule and on budget. Crews are making steady progress throughout the site as more areas of the building begin to take shape.
Framing and exterior sheathing installation are continuing across the building, while insulation and vapor barriers are now being installed in sections. Utility work is also underway, including trenching along the street for the primary electrical service to the campus. Additional progress includes ongoing elevator shaft assembly and continued prep work for the auditorium slab-on-grade concrete pour.

The Town is busy preparing for the upcoming boating season with several improvements and upgrades at Marina Park and within harbor operations.
To better accommodate residents and visitors using the boat launch facilities, the public parking area at Marina Park has been expanded to provide additional truck and boat trailer parking.
The Town Harbor Master also took delivery of the Town’s new patrol and service vessel on May 8th. The new boat is expected to begin serving the community and surrounding waters by mid-June, enhancing harbor operations, public safety, and emergency response capabilities.
In addition, installation of the new JetDock system is scheduled for the week of June 1st, providing improved docking access and operational efficiency for the Harbor Master vessel throughout the boating season.
As boating activity increases this summer, the Town encourages everyone to enjoy the waterways responsibly and safely. Remember to wear life jackets, follow navigation rules, remain alert while on the water, and help keep our harbors and coastal waters safe for all. Stay safe and enjoy the boating season!

The Lake Avenue kayak rack project is nearing completion, with landscaping being installed this week and hydroseeding scheduled for next week. In accordance with the Town Ordinance, rack assignments have been completed and eighteen (18) residents were assigned a rack space at Lake Avenue. The completed site represents a dramatic improvement over previous conditions, enhancing both safety and public access to Potter Pond at this Town right-of-way.
With the Lake Avenue work wrapping up, attention is now shifting to the installation of kayak racks at Washington Street, pending CRMC Assent approval. Washington Street rack assignments will be made available through a lottery process for applicants who were not assigned a space at Lake Avenue. Once all available spaces are assigned, the remaining applicants will be placed on a waiting list through the same lottery system. Currently, there are approximately 30 people on the waiting list.

Update Regarding South Kingstown Community Electricity Program
In May 2023, South Kingstown joined 7 other communities in an electricity buying group with supplier NextEra and launched its Community Electricity Program. Since then, South Kingstown residents have saved approximately $628,000 compared to Rhode Island Energy’s Last Resort Service (LRS) rates.
The South Kingstown Standard product rate will be 13.519 ¢/kWh. While our program rates have dropped by over one cent compared to last winter, they will be approximately 2 cents higher than LRS throughout the upcoming six month rate period. The South Kingstown Standard Product Rate has remained on average, a competitive alternative to Last Resort Service since the Program’s inception. Rates change seasonally and may be above or below program rates in any given six-month period.
Participants can remain in the program, switch their option within the program, or opt out and leave the program at any time, without penalty.
Non-participants may join at any time.
To switch, enroll or opt-out:
Please note that opt-outs may take up to two (2) billing cycles to take effect. Residents who opt out may opt back in to the program at any time at no cost. Re-enrollment pricing is based on then-current market conditions. For questions or concerns, please use the contact information above.
Be on the lookout mid-June for a mailing regarding the Community Electricity Program.

Sorting it Out:
Let's bust some myths about composting!
The first week of May was International Compost Awareness Week, making it the perfect time to debunk some common composting myths. Composting doesn’t have to be difficult or time consuming — it can be as simple as adding food scraps and dry leaves to a backyard bin.
Composting also makes a real difference. Food scraps sent to landfills create methane gas, a potent greenhouse gas, and make up nearly 25–30% of the waste stream. Composting helps reduce landfill waste while creating nutrient-rich soil that improves plant health and helps manage drought and flooding.
For questions about composting, visit RIRRC or contact the SK's Recycling Coordinator at 401-789-9331 x 2259
