This spring, the MWMC broke ground on a multi-phase construction project to address aging infrastructure in our aeration system, where biological treatment processes take place. The goal: to ensure our community's wastewater can be reliably cleaned now and into the future.

Kicking off a series of short videos, watch senior civil engineer Mark Van Eeckhout describe the scope and get a behind-the-scenes look at the beginning phase of the project.

Nick Thrasher, civil engineer for the MWMC with the City of Springfield, is sharing his Water Story this month.

Nick, who is overseeing the plant's aeration system upgrades project, described his role: "I find solutions to project issues for the treatment processes at the MWMC's wastewater treatment plant. Because of that, I know that we'll be able to adequately treat wastewater now and into the future. I'm strengthening and improving our facility through my water story."

This month, treatment plant operators hosted a tour focusing on the MWMC's resource recovery efforts – namely the Renewable Natural Gas (RNG) system and the Biosolids Management Facility. Attendees included engineers with Brown & Caldwell and wastewater staff from the City of Vancouver, WA.

"Visiting with you and team is a huge boost for all of us," noted Tim Mills, of Brown & Caldwell, following the tour. "The Vancouver team gained confidence in RNG because of your success. This visit will have an impact on important decisions to invest in beneficial use of digester gas."

At its monthly meeting on Friday, June 12, the MWMC adopted its budget for Fiscal Year 2026-2027.  

Before the MWMC formally adopted the budget, it was approved by all the governing bodies in the partnership, including the Eugene and Springfield City Councils and the Lane County Board of Commissioners.
