About Animals

From Wildlife Management:

Please Leave Deer Fawns Alone

There are new restrictions effective last month prohibiting the rehabilitation of deer fawns in Fairfax County. The restriction on fawn rehabilitation, administered and enforced by the Virginia Department of Wildlife Resources, is being implemented to reduce potential transmission and spread of Chronic Wasting Disease within deer populations in the Commonwealth. Chronic Wasting Disease is a slow, progressive neurologic disease affecting white-tailed deer and other members of the deer family. This past deer season, the disease was confirmed in a white-tailed deer harvested in Fairfax County for the first time. Learn more.

Adopt From the Fairfax County Animal Shelter

If you are planning to add a pet to your family, please consider adopting one of the many animals at the Fairfax County Animal Shelter who are in need of a good home. The shelter’s "The Heat is On" summer adoption event is Thursday through Sunday, June 22-25. The event will have fee-waived dog adoptions and 50% off adoption fees for cats and small animals.

Planning Commission Decision Deferred for Reston Comprehensive Plan Study

On June 14, the Planning Commission deferred their decision for the Reston Comprehensive Plan Amendment until their meeting on Wednesday, June 28 at 7:30 p.m. The Plan Amendment, detailed in the Reston Comprehensive Plan Staff Report and Addendum, was informed by input from staff analysis, a multi-year community task force and public feedback. Before the June 28 meeting, comments may be submitted to the Planning Commission by phone, in-person, email, or recorded video. If the Planning Commission makes their recommendation as expected on June 28 or during their following meeting, the Board of Supervisors will hold a public hearing on Tuesday, July 25. Following the public hearing, the Board of Supervisors is expected to take action on the recommended Plan Amendment text. The Reston Comprehensive Plan Staff Report, Addendum, and additional information about the Plan Amendment are available on the Reston Study webpage. Questions can be directed to  DPDUrbanCenters@FairfaxCounty.gov.
