As an equal opportunity employer that is committed to fair housing, Kentucky Housing Corporation (KHC) applauds last week's Supreme Court decision extending civil rights protections to gay and transgender employees.

Soon, we will celebrate July 4. More than 240 years ago, our forefathers gathered to sign a document declaring that all people were created equal.

Along with the bombs bursting in air and flags waving, we have something new to celebrate this year. All people have the right to live and work in a place free of discrimination. That right was afforded to them in 1964, yet we continue to fight the equality battle throughout America. Last week's ruling helps to clarify the situation for anyone who was confused.

At KHC, people of all races, religions, genders, and sexual identities have always been and continue to be welcome. We recognize that this ruling is the first step toward a more equitable future, and we congratulate the Supreme Court on its decision.
