JUNE 23, 2022
The Staff Parish Relations Committee is pleased to announce that Andrea Farley is our new Children’s Ministry Coordinator. Andrea founded the new Moms Group at Dayspring and has been active in children’s ministry programs, working alongside Emily Slater. Dayspring will be well served by Andrea’s compassion, devotion, and energy. We are excited to welcome her to this new position.
Summer Sunday school kicked off earlier this month with our Summer of Service. Each week the children will learn about and participate in a service project to serve our church community, our local community, or communities in need around the world. As part of this program, at 10:30, the children will put together comfort bags for homeless persons. (At 9:00 nursery care for kids up to age eight is available.) Also, on July 3, there will be no Sunday School, due to the holiday weekend.
We will celebrate the life of Wil Bloom this Friday, June 24, at 4:00pm. A reception will follow the service in Fellowship Hall.
This Sunday at Dayspring Tempe, Pastor Jeff begins a series entitled Seven Steps Beyond Frustration, inspired by a Centering Workshop by Rev. DeWane Zimmerman. The theme for the first week is "Letting Go” and the text is Luke 9:23-25.
We host Family Promise next week, starting this Sunday, June 26. Summer, especially this close to the holiday, can be a challenging time to find volunteers, but you are asked to prayerfully consider how you can support this ministry by signing up as an overnight host. We need two hosts each night. You are also invited to provide encouragement by leading fun evening activities and/or helping to provide dinner during the week. Please email Howard or Maria with questions or sign up HERE.
Amidst all the turmoil we are feeling in our world and in our lives at this time, walking the labyrinth offers us a time for intentional quiet meditation with God. You may walk the labyrinth any time when the campus is open. Pastor Shirley will offer more information about Walking the Labyrinth between services this Sunday, June 26, and again on July 31. Meet Shirley at the entrance to the labyrinth following the 9:00 service.
We received an urgent request from Tempe Community Action Agency. TCAA's Food Pantry is experiencing unprecedented need. As food insecurity increases in our community, their food pantry cannot maintain the supply required to keep up with the demand. The immediate need is for meat and produce but non-perishables are always welcomed. (PLEASE NOTE: These items MUST be delivered directly to TCAA at: 2146 Apache Blvd, Tempe, AZ 85281)

We will collect non-perishable items this Sunday. Needs include: Ziplock bags (gallon size); high protein items (canned meats, peanut butter, tuna, low sugar protein bars), canned fruit; ready to eat items that do not require refrigeration, utensils, or cooking; dried/canned beans; canned and boxed soups; boxed meals; dried fruit; 100% juice; canned vegetables; oatmeal; rice; granola bars; pasta; mac and cheese; and multigrain crackers.

Alternatively, financial donations to TCAA's food bank can be made HERE.
Are you new to Dayspring UMC or have you been attending for a while and are interested to know more about the church and what is involved in membership? We invite you to attend a one-hour session with Pastor Jeff to learn more about the UMC and Dayspring specifically, on Sunday, July 10 at 2:00pm. We will meet via Zoom or, if you are not able to participate online, we can meet via phone. If you want to attend the membership orientation on Sunday, July 10, please email the church office to let us know you are interested. If this time doesn’t work for you, please contact the church office for alternate dates or times.
Dayspring will be offering a new Stephen Minister training class in September. If interested, please email stephenministers@dayspring-umc.org for more information.
Our 2023 residency is happening! We plan a choir residency at Portsmouth Cathedral from May 24 through June 5, 2023. Email David for more information. You can go on this trip as a singer or as a member of the congregation, as we hope it will be a true exchange with another congregation.
