Reminder: CDL Medical Certification Process Changing Today

Starting today, June 23, 2025, the Texas Department of Public Safety—and nearly every other state licensing agency—must be connected to the National Registry of Certified Medical Examiners (NRCME) for electronic medical certification updates. While Texas and most states are ready, 14 states are not yet fully connected.

Key Changes for CDL Drivers and Carriers:

Elimination of Paper Submissions: CDL drivers in most states, including Texas, will no longer need to submit their Medical Examiner’s Certificate to the State Driver's License Office. Instead, Medical Examiners will send certifications directly to the NRCME database. (Note: This change does not yet apply in 14 states that are not NRCME-ready.)
MVR as Official Record: A driver’s Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) will now reflect the medical certification status, removing the requirement to carry a paper copy of the Medical Examiner’s Certificate (MEC).
No Need to Verify NRCME Status of Examiner: Carriers are no longer required to confirm whether the medical examiner was listed on the NRCME at the time of the exam.

What Is Not Changing:

CDL holders must still declare their type of driving (e.g., interstate vs. intrastate; exempt vs. non-exempt).
Non-CDL drivers are still required to provide a physical copy of their medical certificate for driver qualification files.

U.S. Hazmat Registration Due

Each year, propane retail & wholesale companies must register annually with the Pipeline Hazardous Materials Safety Administration (PHMSA) if you transport or offer shipments of hazardous materials that require placarding.

Registration Period

The 2025-2026 registration year is from July 1, 2025, to June 30, 2026.
