FROM PASTOR SARAH
Beloved of God,

Hanging on the wall in my office is this quote: Compassion is the keen awareness of the interdependence of all living beings which are all part of one another and all involved in one another. - Thomas Merton, Christian writer and monk

Our world needs that kind of compassion always, and especially now. Here are ways to practice compassion in your life:
  • Listen without interrupting or thinking about what you're going to say in response.
  • When you notice suffering in yourself or others, allow yourself to be moved rather than brushing it off.
  • Remember a time when someone showed you compassion and write a letter of gratitude.
As we all seek to navigate a world that is very different from any we've known before, we can easily find ourselves dismissing others' experiences as untrue or unimportant. But when we practice compassion, we unleash God's love into the situation and into the world.

The same is true in this congregation. You are entering a time of figuring out what the future will hold in several ways:
  • Writing paperwork that will begin the call process for your next pastor.
  • Figuring out the safe reentry to building usage.
  • What congregational life looks like after significant conflict, a time of healing work, and in a time physically apart from one another.
Flexing your compassion muscles is so very important in the days and months ahead of you. Know that God's compassion is never ending and draw on that grace and forgiveness.

In peace,
Pastor Sarah

What is the next step in calling a settled call pastor?

St. Paul Lutheran needs to create a Ministry Site Profile (MSP).  The MSP provides congregations a single, common form to use to describe their mission and their search for a rostered minister.

The Church Council has tasked the Ministry Site team with completing this profile by early fall. A Ministry Site Profile team has been formed to work with the congregation on creating this profile. The team consists of: Julie Coozennoy, Bob Olson and Brandy Timmons.

Continue to watch your weekly email for updates.

NURSE'S CORNER

We are blessed to have knowledgeable and caring nurses in our congregation! They have some words of advice for us:

Post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) is an anxiety disorder caused by very stressful, frightening or distressing events.  It's normal to experience upsetting and confusing thoughts after a traumatic event, but in most people these improve naturally over a few weeks. You should visit your provider if you or your child are still having problems about 4 weeks after the traumatic experience, or the symptoms are particularly troublesome. Your provider will want to discuss your symptoms with you in as much detail as possible. The main treatments for post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) are psychological therapies and medication.

Remember to pray for these nurses and all those on the front lines fighting the coronavirus.
SERVICE OPPORTUNITIES

  • Reader: Read and pray in outdoor worship
  • Usher: Help folks know where to park and count worship attendees on Sunday
