Letter of Farewell from Mother Denise

Dear Siblings in Christ,
It has been a privilege to have served you as priest these past two years, and I’m grateful for the ways we’ve grown together in our faith. As I share in my sermon this weekend, I’m truly grateful for the many ways you’ve welcomed me into your community during my term here, and for the labors of love we’ve shared in various ministries. Through worship, Bible studies, fellowship, and serving our neighbors both near and far, I see you all living into the mission of St. Luke’s: to know Christ and make Christ known. It’s been a blessing to witness and companion you in these ministries. As St. Luke is known as a healer, may St. Luke’s Episcopal Church be a place where all encounter the healing power of the love of Christ. I will continue to pray for you and hope you will continue to pray for me as well. Grace & Peace, Denise+
A big THANK YOU to all who donated blood or helped with the blood drive
at St. Lukes, Thursday, June 25th, 10a-2p.
We collected 27 units of blood!

Diocesan Sunday Service
Bishop Reddall will be holding an online diocesan service on Sunday, July 12 in order to give clergy around the diocese a opportunity to rest. Details are being finalized and more information will be announced soon!

We are currently in Phase I in the Diocese of Arizona.
Phase I Guidelines for Church Ministry
·          Offices may be open with very few staff
·          Essential ministries (food banks, direct service, blood drives, 12 step meetings) may continue, with reduction of volunteers as you are able, all volunteers wearing masks, and thorough cleaning after activities.
·          Christian Formation for all ages offered online

Phase I Guidelines for Worship
·          No in-person worship or meetings with more than 10 people present
·          Online worship recommended
·          Funerals, weddings, and ordinations of less than 10 people permitted, with masks and social distancing between participants.
·          Emergency baptisms only
Bishop's Book Club
Episcopalians in the Diocese of Arizona are invited to join Bishop Reddall in a discussion of  White Fragility   over four Tuesdays (June 30-July 21) at 5:00 p.m. The book explores the obstacles to discussion of racism and action to end racism among white people. The Book Club will be an opportunity for personal and theological reflection. All are welcome, but the Bishop particularly encourages people to join who are new to anti-racism work, or who do not currently believe that racism is systemic and active. The Book Club will be held over Zoom. Please have a copy of the book before the first meeting.

Our thoughts and prayers go out to the Yarnell Hill community for the nineteen firefighters who lost their lives and their families, and countless others who have lost their homes.

Lord, we remember these men and their families.

Food Pantry is open every Friday, 9am to Noon
Pass the word!!!

Thank you St. Luke's parishioners for your continued support of the Food Pantry, both in requested grocery items and through your financial support.
Your generosity has been heartwarming!

Here is a little update to keep you informed of what is going on.

Last week we supplied food to 68 individuals. This week we supplied food to another 68 Individuals.
We extend great gratitude for your kind hearts.

Attached is a “Much Needed List of Food Items”. These needed items will greatly assist the Food Pantry
in offering complete meals made from different combinations of all the items.
List of Most Needed Food Items
Immediate needs include
Spaghetti Sauce, Manwich, Mac & Cheese

If so inclined you are welcome to pick up a few of these items while out shopping for yourselves and
bring your food items to the church on any Thursday between 1:00 and 3:00pm
For those who are not shopping but would like to give a monetary donation,
you can mail your check to St. Luke’s Episcopal Church, with “Food Pantry” written in the memo section. These funds will be placed in a separate account for the Food Pantry and used as needed.
A third opportunity is to keep the Food Pantry clients and each other in your prayers
for peace and well-being.

Father Pierre-Henry does remind everyone that St. Luke’s remains under complete lock down at this time.  Please  do not  bring items on any other day or time than what is listed above, as no one will be available to bring them inside .

Please continue to pray for the needs of our community; for those experiencing food insufficiency, for those seeking medical assistance, and for those needing housing.
Stay safe and take good care of yourselves and each other.  St. Luke's Food Pantry
Many of you have asked "how can I support St. Luke's
during this difficult time?"
The first thing we can all do is keep each other in our thoughts and prayer.
The second is to check on each other through phone calls, emails, text messages, etc.
Thirdly, at this time we need your financial support.
Pledges and plate offerings can be kept up to date by online giving click here for a one time or recurring donation.
You can also mail your offering, or if you just need to get out of the house,
go for a ride to St. Luke's and place your offering in the secured locked mailbox outside our parish office.
Thank you so much for supporting St. Luke's in this difficult time.
