Committee for Midtown Oakville
to meet every month
until December

The newly established Committee of the Whole for Midtown Oakville will meet every second Tuesday of each month starting July 18 until mid-December 2023.
The committee will discuss how to best accommodate the forecasted 20,600 jobs by 2031 and subsequent rise to 43,000 by 2051.
Similarly, the committee will also discuss third-party reviews, best practices for Major Transit Station Area, designing of complete communities, climate change initiatives, relevant master plans, population and employment forecasts, opportunities for public engagement and a detailed review of the infrastructure requirements, timelines and commitments sought from the Province of Ontario, Metrolinx and other key stakeholders.

Oakville seeks public input on
enhancing patio dining program

While patio dining is in full swing, the Town of Oakville is planning ahead to enhance the program for future years.
The town is seeking public input about maintaining a vibrant patio experience in public and private spaces.
An online survey is available to the public until July 30, 2023, to get feedback on the availability of restaurant and café patio dining, ease of use, safety and accessibility.

The Oakville on canvas exhibition features a collection of plein-air paintings of Oakville scenery through the 4 seasons of the year.
Opening Reception will be held at Summer and Grace Gallery on June 28th from 4:00 – 7:00 PM.
Opening night will be attended by the Mayor of Oakville, Rob Burton.

Oakville Fire begins door-to-door fire safety awareness campaign | |
|
Starting today, Oakville Fire crews will be visiting with residents in a door-to-door campaign to raise awareness about fire safety.
The home awareness program runs until September 30 and will see fire crews visit more than 3,600 homes to educate residents and distribute fire safety information in English, French and the most common languages spoken in Oakville - Mandarin, Arabic, Spanish, Urdu and Portuguese.
For information in another language, residents can call 905-845-6601 and request for over-the-phone interpretation, available in more than 240 languages.

Supporting affordable
housing in Halton

A federal and provincial funding investment of close to $5 million is supporting regional efforts to create more affordable housing in Halton.
This funding has been provided through a combined investment between the Canada-Ontario Community Housing Initiative, Ontario Priorities Housing Initiative, Social Infrastructure Fund and the Investment in Affordable Housing Extension, along with supplemental funding from Halton Region.
The funding has supported the development of the Catherton Charitable Foundation project in Milton, a 83-unit infill development containing 34-units of assisted housing.
In fact, additional operating funding through the Halton Rental Assistance Program (HRAP) has meant the region will be supporting 21 of these 34 units, to achieve deeper affordability for clients housed through Halton Access to Community Housing (HATCH).
The rent for the assisted housing units will be maintained at 80 per cent of the Canada Mortgage and Housing Corp.’s average market rent rates for at least 20 years.
Halton continues to invest significantly in housing, and advocate to all levels of government for predictable and sustainable funding.
These strong partnerships are critical in addressing the housing challenges as our community continues to grow.

The Town of Oakville Council Strategic Plan sets the long-term vision and direction for the Oakville community while the Action Plan identifies the actions and initiatives for Council’s four-year term of office.

If you have ever looked up any of Oakville’s by-laws, such as fireworks, parking, zoning, or others, the town needs your help.
Through an online survey available until July 17, 2023, members of the public can provide input to help improve the ease of searching, accessing and using by-law information.
All feedback collected through the survey will be used to improve the access and use of by-laws on the town’s website.

Ontario Supporting More Innovation in Growing Tech Sector
The Ontario government is investing up to $77 million in two projects to help Ontario companies adopt, develop and bring to market critical technologies, such as 5G, ethical artificial intelligence (AI), blockchain, cybersecurity and robotics.
