July 1: Lake Fairfax Park in Reston

The celebration at Lake Fairfax Park begins at noon and continues to when fireworks begin around 9 p.m. Be sure to arrive early so you can park and find a spot to view the show. Food trucks will be onsite, and all picnic areas will be offered on a first-come-first served basis. Tickets: $15 in advance/$20 at gate (bikes and pedestrians are free.) Learn more.

July 2: Vienna's Independence Day Celebration and Fireworks

The Town of Vienna's celebration kicks off at 4 p.m. with family activities and entertainment at Yeonas Park, 1319 Ross Drive, SW. There will also be food trucks! Please note that there will be some road closures 7 to 11 p.m. Learn more.

There are also fireworks in nearby Herndon, McLean and other locations. Get details here and here's even more fun things to do the rest of July.

If you are planning on using fireworks in your neighborhood, here are some safety tips from Fairfax County's public safety agencies:

  • Make sure fireworks are legal in your area before buying or using them. Here is a list of permissible fireworks in our county.
  • Keep all bystanders at least 25 feet away from fireworks.
  • During the use of permissible fireworks, minors should be supervised by a parent or legal guardian. Never allow young children to play with or ignite fireworks.
  • Never try to re-light or pick up fireworks that have not fully functioned.
  • Never point or throw fireworks at another person.
  • Keep a bucket of water or a garden hose handy in case of fire or other mishap.

I hope you and your family have a safe and fun holiday!

Regards,

Walter

Reston Station 25 Ride Along

On Monday I had the opportunity to do a ride along with Battalion Chief Bentley, which included stops at surrounding Fairfax County Fire and Rescue stations. It was a great opportunity to have some one-on-one time with our fire and rescue personnel and get a front seat to the great work that they do!
