Hello everyone!

Busy July Long Weekend - June 29!

Reminder:

This long weekend our downtown is going to be a bustling, energetic place! In addition to the two markets: (1) Downtown Community Market and (2) Farmers' Market (which is relocating from the 100 block to the 400 & 500 blocks of Main Street), there will also be a new Penticton Arts Market at the Penticton Art Gallery, Rib Fest at Okanagan Lake Park, and Elvis Festival at Gyro Park - followed by Canada Day celebrations at Gyro Park on Monday! There will be thousands of people downtown enjoying the festivities all weekend long.

IMPORTANT PARKING NOTE : If you frequently park in the City Hall parking lot you will have to find an alternative parking location on Saturday, June 29. The City's lot will be barricaded/fenced and is reserved exclusively for the Elvis Festival - expect non-Elvis Festival vehicles to be towed.

REMINDER: Starting June 29 - Market Hours Extended!

Starting Saturday, June 29 the Downtown Community Market shifts into summer hours: extended until 2:00 pm! Vendors must remain set up until 2:00 pm. Vehicles are not permitted on the road until market staff has given the OK that the streets are sufficiently clear of pedestrians. Tents and all merchandise must be fully packed for quick vehicle loading prior to bringing vehicles on the street.

Penticton Farmers' Market - Relocating for this Saturday!

The Penticton Farmers' Market is being relocated, Saturday, June 29 due to several fantastic events happening downtown. For this weekend the farmers market and bike valet service will be set up in the 400 & 500 blocks of Main Street. Their hours of operation remain the same: 8:30 am to 1:00 pm. Please direct questions or concerns pertaining to the Farmers' Market to Katherine Harris, Farmers' Market manager via email: [email protected] .

Vendors Only - 300 Block Washrooms!

Should vendors in the 300 Block of Main Street require a restroom, please present your "V" card at one of the following businesses to access their facilities:

• Cue's Gameroom and Grill

• Okanagan Cosmetology Institute (OCI)

• Vitamin King

• NEST Home Décor and Gifts

• Poppin’s Quilt Parlour

REMEMBER: All vendors are required to show their green “V” card to indicate that you are an approved vendor in our market. If you've misplaced your "V" card, please let a DPA staff member know; we will provide you with a new card.

New Evening Market - Thursdays | July 11 to August 29

We are continuing to plan a new Thursday evening market for the summer. Full season and Drop-In spots available but they're going fast. You can find the application on our website. For more information email us, phone 250-493-8540 or visit the DPA tent on Saturday until 1:00 pm to pick up an application!

How to Contact the Market Manager on Saturdays:

During the Saturday market hours of 6:30am to 1:30pm you will be able to contact the market manager directly (250) 460-6530. Please note this phone is activated only during these market hours.

Please direct all other inquires to amber @downtownpenticton.org or call (250) 493-8540 during the week (Tue - Fri 9am - 4pm).

A few reminders:

Weights for Tents:

All vendors must secure their tents with weights each week (click to read guidelines for securing tents). Adequately anchoring tents is a City of Penticton Fire Department requirement.

Take Down:

Vendors are not permitted to enter the street until the street is deemed safe by the market staff, and no earlier than 2:15 pm.

Market maps:

The market maps will be loaded to the website by the end of day on Thursday. In the meantime, here they are for your early use. Please keep in mind the maps are always subject to change at any time. We encourage you to keep in touch and review the maps weekly to ensure you are in the loop.

Always let us know if/when you'll be away

The market is completely sold out for 2019! We also have a extensive wait-list of non-profits and drop-in applications ready to fill spaces as needed to keep the market looking full all summer long.

Therefore, if you know you will be unable to attend any of the markets, please advise us as soon as possible so we can arrange to have an alternative vendor in place.

Market hours over the summer

Same as last year, the Market hours are extended during the peak months (July & August) until 2:00 pm!

Market hours are the following:

8:30 am – 1:30 pm, Saturday, May 4 – June 29
8:30 am – 2:00 pm, Saturday, July 6 – August 31
8:30 am – 1:30 pm, Saturday, September 7 – 28

Set Up Instructions

Everyone assigned to the 300 block of Main Street, please enter through Wade and Main.

If you are on the 200 block of Main Street, please enter through Nanaimo and Main. If you are located on Front Street, please enter through Westminster. Please check in with a staff member as you enter the market areas.

Tent vendors:

Set up starts at 6:30am for 10' x 10' tent vendors (Front Street, Backstreet Blvd. and 200 block Main Street).

Sidewalk vendors:

Vendors located on the sidewalk should not arrive and set up before 7:30am.

Everyone:

All vehicles in ALL BLOCKS must be moved off the streets by 7:45am.
At closing time, all vendors must pack first (merchandise and tents), and THEN go and get your vehicle.
Vehicles may only re-enter the streets once market staff advise that it is safe to enter.
Vendors may not move vehicles past any road barricade until DPA staff have granted access.
Please come prepared for inclement weather. The market runs rain or shine.
You must bring weights for your tent. Use rope or bungie cords to secure weights to your canopy tent legs. You are responsible for your tent and damages that may occur due to windy conditions.
No smoking in the market. Please take it well off the side, at least 10 metres from any doors, windows or other vendors.
Please ensure all outstanding fees are paid prior to the market as per the NO PLACEMENT WITHOUT PAYMENT policy.

A dditional Information for First Time/ Returning Vendors:

Please enter from the above designated entrances (based on your location)
All tent vendor locations will have a permanent painted vendor number (sidewalk vendors will be chalked)
Please pull over to the side for a quick unload beside your location. This should be done as quickly as possible to keep the paths clear for other vendors to enter and exit.
You must keep all merchandise within your vendor spot as you are not allowed to extend outside of your 10' x 10'/ sidewalk.
Due to space limitations sandwich boards will not be permitted.
Sidewalk vendors are not to obstruct pedestrian traffic or block a downtown business front entrance.

Additional Notes:

Reminder- Main Street is a one-way street! You may not enter/drive southbound even when the road is closed.

Open power where needed:

Access to power is limited and vendors must confirm with authorized DPA staff before use.
All available power in the market is 15 amps per circuit. Power vendors must comply with the market's electrician including the use of proper outdoor heavy duty extension cords, cord covers, and grounded generators. Follow FSR/electrician's direction for overall market safety.

Reminder- Vendors can only sell specific items that are listed on their applications. This ensures that comparable products are spread out as much as possible. If you'd like to add/ sell any additional product for the following year, please contact an authorized DPA staff member to discuss things.

Fire lanes must always be kept clear for traffic flow.

All vendors must comply with the vendor rules and regulations. (E.g. Vendors must stay until the end of market.)

Attached is a City of Penticton parking map for your convenience as there is no designated vendor parking.

If you have a Facebook page as a vendor, we invite you to join the new DPA market Facebook group. You will need to log in to your own Facebook page and click the " + Join Group" tab.

Once you have joined the group you can post information, specials and engage market-goers on this new DPA market facebook group page.
