Happenings At
Lord Of Life Lutheran Church
"Where everybody is somebody, and Jesus is Lord!"
Pentecost
Weekend
June 4th & 5th
|
|
"When the day of Pentecost had come, they were all together in one place. And suddenly from heaven there came a sound like the rush of a violent wind, and it filled the entire house where they were sitting. Divided tongues, as of fire, appeared among them, and a tongue rested on each of them. All of them were filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak in other languages, as the Spirit gave them ability."
Acts 2:1-4 NRSV

Current Mask Policy
Burlington County is currently at a "high Covid-19" level. Until this changes, during the month of June, masks will be required at our Saturday, 5:00 PM service. Masks are recommended, but optional, at other services or while in our church building. Any updates or changes to the mask policy will be given in the weekly email about our weekend church services and in the next LifeLines.

From The Pastor's Desk:
Cough, cough... sigh. I really thought Covid would be easy to face, being vaccinated, boosted, and with an average immune system. I don't know why I'm so sick - my lung capacity is down 20% from just before Covid. Is it this variant? Is it interacting with pollen allergies? Is it just statistics, that a portion of folks will simply have a worse time with Covid? Whatever it is, let me be your warning: Covid is not over. Sadly.
Yet, being sick was a reminder of the power of love and care. I'll forget what this chest pain felt like, but I won't forget how amazing it was when each afternoon, as all 4 of my family got hungry and not much energy or foods to cook - and then a text would ping me, "Pastor, I put a meal on your porch. Get well soon!" Surprise and relief, kindness and connection - those are things I won't forget. In the midst of difficult times, there are blessings and there are people willing to help.
You'll still see me wearing a mask. Even though I can't catch Covid or give you my Covid germs, I could still carry germs from one contagious person to others. Additionally, I could carry a flu, or strep, or other illness. I recommend that when you are indoors in mixed groups (not your "pod"), that you wear a mask. KN95 are inexpensive, comfortable, and reusable, and available at Church. Don't think of masking as "all-or-nothing" - wearing them 10% of the time is better than zero.
Remember that in June, when CDC.gov says Covid transmission levels are High in our county, our Saturday 5:00 PM service will be masks-required.
One last note - thankfully my son Caedmon finished his quarantine in plenty of time to attend his Confirmation service. Please join us this Saturday, June 4, at 5:00 PM to celebrate with Caedmon. The sermon will tell the story of his unique name, and how God has blessed Cade (and us!) by making him uniquely who he is.
Peace,
Pastor Wendolyn

(A "note" from Worship And Music Director, Rick Krause.)

"Is the ELW service traditional? Is the Prayer, Praise, and Thanksgiving service contemporary?" These questions are addressed by the ELCA Worship Staff in the following article.

Ukraine Relief
Through
Lutheran Disaster Response
Lutheran World Relief will be supporting assistance efforts to refugees who are victims of the Russian invasion into the FREE and INDEPENDENT nation of Ukraine. As of this writing, it is estimated by the United Nations that over 6 million Ukrainians have fled their homeland and many more will follow. It is also estimated that over 10 million Ukrainians have been displaced from their homes.
A pledge of a $50,000 matching fund has been made for the first $50,000 given to LDR. If you would like to contribute to this effort, use the link below which will enable you to directly contribute.
"Though an army encamp against me, my heart shall not fear; though war rise up against me, I will not be shaken. For in the day of trouble, God will give me shelter, hide me in the hidden places of the sanctuary, and raise me high upon a rock. Even now my head is lifted up above my enemies who surrround me. Therefore I will offer sacrifece in the sanctuary, sacrifices of rejoicing; I will sing and make music to the Lord."

From The Editor:
LifeLines Ending Song:
This hymn was requested as the "Confirmation Hymn" by our confirmand, Cade Trozzo. The music is an American folk tune, Nettleton, written by John Wyeth in 1813. This is the "American" version of the hymn as found in ELW #807. Other tunes are common in England for this hymn. The words were written by Robert Robinson in 1758. The text is based on 1 Samuel:7-12 and dwells on the theme of divine grace. The word Ebenezer is the name of a stone monument erected by Samuel following a defeat of the Philistines. It is the "stone of help" that God gave to the Israelites.
