God IS With Us
"Now you are the body of Christ, and each one of you is a part of it." I Corinthians 12:26-27, NIV
As the new Regional Disaster Response Coordinator, I find myself watching the Weather Channel more than I ever have in my life. I want to be in the know if a storm is affecting an area of the Great River Region. I want to be able to reach out to our pastors and congregations to offer support and care after a storm. I have noticed more and more the verbiage used on the Weather Channel when there is a storm warning. They often say, “It is time for you to be in your safe place.” And I often hear them as a storm is approaching an area say things like, “Don’t be scared, be prepared.”
As my community here in Rogers, AR was hit by several tornadoes on Memorial Day weekend, I know what it feels like when those words are spoken for your hometown. Even in my “safe place” I can honestly say I was prepared AND I was scared as the winds roared and I heard large trees falling around me and on my home. But the fear was tempered by my trust that God would be with me through the storm! I knew that God would see me through because God has seen me through so many times before in my life. I don’t just believe in the power and goodness of God; I trust in it and know it to be true from experience! I know MANY of you in our Region have also lived through the terror of the storm and the grief of what was lost. But I hope you all have also experienced the power and goodness of God and God’s people after the storm.
If you are interested in ways to be the hands and feet of Jesus in our Region, I encourage you to reach out to me. I will try to fit your skills and abilities to any one of the many needs for recovery in our Region right now. You can also continue to give to Week of Compassion and to the Great River Region for disaster recovery. Part of what it means to be the body of Christ is to understand “26 If one part suffers, every part suffers with it; if one part is honored, every part rejoices with it. 27 Now you are the body of Christ, and each one of you is a part of it. (I Corinthians 12:26-27, NIV). We are all on this journey together. We can prepare and we can respond. But most importantly we can be the Body of Christ together.
Reach out if you want to serve or if you need anything.
