Is it June Already?
"There is a time for everything..." Ecclesiastes 3:1
I don’t know about you, but May simply flew by for me! Perhaps I lost track of time in May because I was immersed in learning new systems…acclimating to new technology (which did not always cooperate)…and meeting new friends throughout the Great River Region. Perhaps May flew by because every day was different – as it is in ministry – and there never seemed to be enough time to address everything that needed my attention. Perhaps May flew by because I missed the last week of it while fighting Co-Vid. Whatever caused the month of May to move at the pace of a bullet train, I’m fairly confident that June will fly by just as quickly. With graduation celebrations behind us, with summer routines finding their way into our lives, before THIS month gets away from us, let us pause…take a deep breath…and remember the wisdom of Ecclesiastes:
"There is a time for everything, and a season for every activity under the heavens:
a time to be born and a time to die, a time to plant and a time to uproot,
a time to kill and a time to heal, a time to tear down and a time to build,
a time to weep and a time to laugh, a time to mourn and a time to dance,
a time to scatter stones and a time to gather them,
a time to embrace and a time to refrain from embracing,
a time to search and a time to give up, a time to keep and a time to throw away,
a time to tear and a time to mend, a time to be silent and a time to speak,
a time to love and a time to hate, a time for war and a time for peace."
(Ecclesiastes 3:1-8)
This past month provided numerous opportunities for every activity under the heavens! Babies were born…and we rejoiced! Beloveds died…and we mourned. The storms in Northwest Arkansas tore down buildings and trees…and the communities pulled together to build each other back up. We were given multiple chances to extend love and compassion…and we met difficult challenges that called for boundaries to be set. And life presents opportunities and unique challenges each and every day for us to ponder how we – in good faith – will respond. How we respond to challenges in life exemplify WHO our faith is in…is it in man…or in God?
We were never promised an easy life…but a FULL life…full of hope and possibilities and love. So if this next month throws some challenges your way, just remember that with every tear that falls, there is a giggle in your future! For every minute you mourn, an unexpected jig is tucked away just for you! If you are tired of searching for something you cannot seem to find, simply let go of what you thought you were seeking…for God might have something else entirely planned just for you…beyond your wildest imagination! Remember that God often calls us to speak…but sometimes God calls for our silence. Christ calls us to love others – all others – and in loving others, we are called to hate injustice. Just a little something to ponder as we begin Pride month. If is it time for you to mend a relationship that has been torn, get to it…this might just be the season for it!
May God bless you on this amazing journey called life,
