Week of June 2

Aloha KCC Students, Faculty, Staff and Community Supporters,

As summer begins, I want to take a moment to say mahalo for a wonderful academic year. Mahalo nui to everyone who has contributed to our college community.  Our commencement was blessed with lots of rain and more graduates walking than ever before!

I hope that this Summer you get a chance to recharge, connect with the outdoors and spend time with friends and ʻohana.

Students, whether you're enrolled in summer classes, working, taking a well-earned break, or preparing for the upcoming fall semester, you're an important part of our college and island community. If you haven’t already done so, please make sure to reach out to your counselor to get help preparing for fall classes.

We look forward to our ACCJC peer review team visit this fall. Mahalo to everyone who has contributed to this process!

Wishing you a safe and rejuvenating summer!

Me ke aloha,

Margaret Sanchez

WASFAA’s Outstanding New Volunteer Award - Carna Brown

Join us in congratulating Carna Brown for receiving the WASFAA Outstanding New Volunteer Award.

At the WASFAA Conference in May, Carna Brown was awarded the Outstanding New Volunteer award in recognition of her exceptional dedication, leadership, and service within both WASFAA and PacFAA. As a mentee in the 2023-24 Rebekah Hoppel Salcedo Leadership Program, she embraced the opportunity to grow, gaining confidence in her leadership abilities that ultimately led her to run and be elected as PacFAA President Elect. She will continue her leadership journey as a member of the 2025-26 WASFAA Executive Council in her role as PacFAA President.

Distinguished Service Award - Jeff Anderson

Join us in congratulating Jeff Anderson for receiving the PacFAA Distinguished Service Award at the PacFAA Conference in May.

"Jeff recently led a truly groundbreaking effort—bringing in-person financial aid training to colleagues across the Pacific Islands for the very first time in PacFAA’s history. He traveled to Guam and Palau to assist our colleagues from Guam, Palau Community College, the College of Micronesia - FSM, and the College of the Marshall Islands, to provide support and share important updates.

During these sessions, Jeff covered everything from Pell Grant awarding to Federal Work Study, FSEOG, and FISAP, helping ensure our partners in the Pacific had the tools and information they needed to navigate the ever-changing world of financial aid, especially with the rollout of the new FAFSA.

What made this initiative even more special was the sense of connection and collaboration Jeff helped foster. These weren’t just training sessions—they were opportunities to share experiences, challenges, and solutions, strengthening the entire network of support for students in the region.

Jeff’s work reflects the heart of what PacFAA is all about: community, leadership, and a commitment to helping students succeed. We’re grateful for his passion and leadership, and we’re honored to present him with this well-deserved award," - PacFAA President Sherrie Padilla
