Kingman County Fair

Fair Board Members Needed

The Kingman County Fair Association will be seeking new members following this year’s county fair. If you are interested in joining the board, please let Melissa know.

Fair Books

Printed Fair Books are here! Copies can be picked up at the Extension Office.

Fashion Revue Scripts

All scripts for the public Fashion Revue are due to Melissa by 5:00 pm on Friday, June 27. Please email those to mthimesch@ksu.edu. The form to submit your scripts can be found here. Seniors and Intermediates will also need to submit a cost-per-wear form, which can be found here.

Sugar Content in Food Exhibit Items

As members prepare items in the Food Department, please remember for items to be shelf-stable, we need to account for the sugar content in items with frosting and fillings. Here is a worksheet that will help you determine the safety of your items. Please remember that the sugar content in frostings and fillings needs to be higher than 65%.

Additional Fair Resources can be found on our website at kingman.k-state.edu

4-H Food Stand Tabs

We will be changing the way tabs are handled at the 4-H Food Stand this year. All tabs must be set up before the Fair. If your family would like to have a tab this year, please email or call Melissa by July 18th at 5:00. NO TABS WILL BE STARTED AT THE FAIR!

Public Fashion Revue

This year, the Public Fashion Revue will be held at The Hanger in downtown Kingman. The date for this event will be July 13th at 2:00 pm.

Project Engagement Information

Photography Showcase Project

This year, I would like to encourage members to take pictures all year long! In each newsletter, I will give members a photo prompt, and you can take pictures and send me your best 2 by the 20th of each month. You can email me the file at mthimesch@ksu.edu or text me the files at 620-243-3766. I will apply a watermark to your image and then post a showcase each month on our Facebook page. I will also showcase photos on our digital frame here in the office. If a member isn’t in photography but would like to give it a try, this would be a great opportunity for that!

June’s Photo Prompt is “Sunrises and Sunsets”

Frames!

If you are in need of a frame for your Visual Art project, please stop by the office. We had a very generous donation of different-sized frames just for 4-H members to use!

Club Corner

Vinita Monthly Meeting

The monthly meeting of the Vinita 4-H Club was called to order on May 4th, 2025 at United Methodist Church of Cheney. Flag Salute was led by Issac Guthrie. Roll call was “What are your summer plans?” and was answered by twenty-three members, zero cloverbuds, one leader, and seven parents. Parliamentarians gave a talk about point of information, and reporters said they will be working on this month's article. Historians asked members to send any pictures of any 4-H activities to be sent to the Vinita 4-H Facebook page.

Ambassadors talked about the project fair coming up on May 18th at Kingman Saddle and Ropers building. There were no reports of committees or communications. Leaders reported fair pre-entries and auction eligibility forms were due May 9th, Discovery Days registration was due May 5th, horse papers are due June 1st, and fashion revue scripts are due June 27th. They also reported that a concession stand manager is still needed and Four-Ever Wild Day Camp is May 28th and registration was due May 15th. There was no old or new business. Song was led by Annelysse Fall. Jebediah Fall gave a talk about “Sneaky Snakes,” teaching us how to tell the difference between common venomous and non-venomous snakes. Hadassah Fall gave a talk on how she takes care of her bottle lamb. Brin Bergkamp moved that the meeting was adjourned and McKoy Young seconded it. The meeting was adjourned by saying the 4-H pledge led by Jebediah Fall.

Whispering Willow Meets in May

During the May meeting of the Whispering Willow 4-H Club, three members shared about their projects with informational talks. Ethan Kostner talked about woody encroachment of grasslands, Hayden Wood talked about bees and honey production, and Ethan Wood talked about 3D printers. All three talks were very informative and taught us all a lot. The Fundraising Committee reminded us about the 4th of July Bake Sale and Meat Raffle. We closed the meeting with a cup stack relay game.

Sam Thimesch

Whispering Willow Club Reporter

This year, I would like to share club highlights each month in the 4-H newsletter. If club reporters would like to email me a short paragraph about what your club is doing each month, I will include that here! Please email that to me at mthimesch@ksu.edu by the 20th of each month.
