Province Announces $71-Million for Connectivity

The Province of Ontario has announced $71-million in funding for the  Eastern Ontario Regional Network project for improving mobile broadband and curing cellular dead zones.

Minister of Infrastructure Monte McNaughton made the announcement Friday, May 17, first in Roseneath, near  Cobourg, and then at the main administration building of the  United Counties of Leeds and Grenville.

"This is a matter of public safety and economic opportunity," the Minister said. "We all know of examples where people are put in dangerous positions because of dropped calls or lost connections during emergencies."

Procter and Gamble to expand by 100 employees

One of Belleville's largest employers is getting even larger.

Procter and Gamble Belleville will undergo a significant expansion starting next month that will result in the creation of approximately 100 jobs at the Belleville facility, which will bring the square footage of the Belleville plant to roughly 1 million square feet.

A release states that P&G's investment in the Belleville facility solidifies its position as the global leader in the production of the Always brand.

The Rural Innovation Initiative Eastern Ontario (RIIEO) supports the transition of rural businesses by driving direct investments to improve productivity, sales and employment opportunities to transform our new rural economy. Eligible project activities will foster: Innovation, Technology Adoption and Digital Connectivity.
 
Funding is through the Federal Economic Development Agency for Southern Ontario (FedDev Ontario) and supports projects that drive innovation and growth in rural Eastern Ontario.
