This Weekly Update by the Illinois School and Campus Safety Program promotes awareness and prevention during the 100 Deadliest Days for teen driving, shares information on the Invent2Prevent program and an upcoming session of the NASRO Basic SRO Course, promotes upcoming sessions of Digital Threat Assessment, and shares information on the upcoming Illinois School Safety Conference.

100 Deadliest Days

We are once again in the 100 Deadliest Days for teen drivers. The 100 Deadliest Days are the days from Memorial Day to Labor Day. According to AAA, "Across the country, 13,135 people have been killed in a crash involving a teen driver between 2019-2023. Over 30% of those deaths occurred during the 100 deadliest days."

To help promote teen driver safety, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration's page on Teen Driving addresses risk factors such as distracted driving, passengers, speeding, seat belt usage, and more.

Upcoming Session of Digital Threat Assessment® in Glenview on June 18th

This is the last chance to registered for the Digital Threat Assessment® class in Glenview, IL on June 18th.

The Digital Threat Assessment® training will enable participants to establish a framework to better assess all threats by constructing and considering the digital baseline of a threat maker by locating, documenting, and evaluating social media data through a threat assessment lens. A significant portion of the day will be spent engaging in hands-on exercises on the most prevalent social media platforms and associated search applications.

Upcoming Session of Digital Threat Assessment® via Zoom on June 30th

The Illinois School and Campus Safety Program, in partnership with Safer Schools Together, is pleased to announce an upcoming session of the Digital Threat Assessment® class is being held via Zoom on June 30th.

The Digital Threat Assessment® training will enable participants to establish a framework to better assess all threats by constructing and considering the digital baseline of a threat maker by locating, documenting, and evaluating social media data through a threat assessment lens. Upcoming Session of the NASRO Basic SRO Course Being Held in Normal

The Law and Justice Commission MTU 8, in partnership with the Illinois School Resource Officers Association, is hosting a session of the NASRO Basic School Resource Officer Course July 21-25, 2025, in Normal, IL. This week-long training is "designed to prepare school resource officers, other law enforcement officers, and school safety professionals to fulfill their roles in the school setting effectively. School administrators and education professionals would also benefit from this course."

Registration Open for Illinois Invent2Prevent

Illinois high schools are invited to participate in Invent2Prevent, a free school safety and prevention program. "Illinois Invent2Prevent challenges high school students to create and implement peer-developed initiatives, products, and tools to prevent targeted violence in ways they think will be most effective in making their schools and communities safer." Illinois School Safety Conference October 1st

The Illinois School Safety Conference is scheduled for October 1, 2025, from 7:30 am to 4:00 pm in Niles, IL. This conference is free for school personnel, police, fire, emergency preparedness personnel, and public safety officers (you must bring your school or agency ID to enter the event). The conference includes speakers from various organizations, free continental breakfast and lunch, and onsite vendors. Additionally, paperwork will be provided on site for school personnel seeking Professional Development hours. For more information and to register, click here.
