National Drowning Prevention Week
Mark your calendars! National Drowning Prevention Week is July 15-21, 2018.
The Lifesaving Society designates the third week in July as National Drowning Prevention Week (NDPW) to focus community and media attention on the drowning problem and drowning prevention.
The Social Media Plan  contains daily themes and key messages targeted to address trends seen in Lifesaving Society drowning reports and the data from the Drowning Prevention Research Centre. The key messages can be used on social media to promote safe behaviors while in, on and around water. Please include the #NDPW2018 hashtag in the posts.
If you have any questions or require Water Smart® Materials to support National Drowning Prevention Week please contact the Lifesaving Society at (780) 415-1755 or email [email protected]
Lifejacket Loaner Station Grants Available from the Lifesaving Society Alberta and NWT Branch
The Lifesaving Society has recently received grant funding from Cabela's Canada Outdoor Fund. We are very pleased to be able to offer a limited number of grants of up to $1,500 each to support the establishment of new lifejacket loaner stations.

The Lifesaving Society will work with the successful applicants to provide banners, signage and Water Smart® public education materials for the new lifejacket loaner stations at no additional cost. The Society is able to co-brand the main Lifejacket Loaner Station banner displayed at each loaner station.

Cabela's Canada Outdoor Fund is also supplying 200 lifejackets that will be used to support the new lifejacket loaner stations and also resupply existing lifejacket loaner stations based on need.

We ask that interested communities complete an expression of interest and submit to the Lifesaving Society by Monday, June 18. The Lifesaving Society will review the submitted expressions of interest and will select communities based on need and eligibility. Support from community champions and partners are essential to the lifejacket loaner station program's success and will be a factor in the selection of successful applicants. Preference will be given to communities who do not currently have a lifejacket loaner station.
