The Final Countdown

We hope you can join us for the End of the Year Picnic on Wednesday, June 12. Please click here to read about the event. There is an opportunity to make a small donation if you wish to have lunch with us (students eat for free).

We are still looking for facepainters and volunteers to help clean up! If you're able to help, please sign up here!

Dismissal on June 12

Dismissal will be slightly different (and hopefully easier!) than in past years, now that we use Pikmykid. Please be sure to update your child's Wednesday pick-up method by midnight on Tuesday, June 11. The option to pick up your child at the picnic by 12:15 is now available in Pikmykid.

Releasing your child to a different TCGIS parent
If your child is going home with another TCGIS parent after the picnic on Wednesday, you must delegate this parent for your child's dismissal option in Pikmykid. We cannot release your child to another adult, who is not their parent, unless she/he is officially delegated to this adult in Pikmykid. In this case, the parent delegation is their dismissal mode, and your child will be released to this parent in whatever dismissal mode the delegated parent has indicated in PMK.

Pick-up at the picnic 12:00-12:15 pm
Students may be picked up in person at the picnic between 12:00-12:15pm; parents must 'check out' their child from their homeroom teacher. Teachers will gather with their students on the large field, away from the picnic shelters, starting at 12:00pm.

Students who are still with their teachers at 12:15 will be walked back to school, collect their belongings and then head to their pick-up method.

Dismissal at TCGIS via bus, car and walking pick-up 12:30-12:45
  • Please note: this dismissal is 15 min earlier than normal early-release days.
  • Buses will depart TCGIS at 12:30pm on Wednesday. Please plan to be at your child's bus stop approx. 15 minutes earlier than usual.   Click here for the earlier bus-stop times.
  • Students will be sent out to car pickup and walking pickup at 12:30; students who are not picked up by 12:45 will be brought into the front office.
St. Paul City Council Voted

Yesterday's City Council meeting
was a significant moment for our school community, an inflection point in the future of our school. We are grateful that the City Council voted 5-0 against the historic designation of the former church building, and voted 5-0 in favor of the site plan and variances we need to move forward with our building project. The decisiveness of the City Council on these pivotal votes provides reassurance that we will soon be able to provide the facilities our students and teachers need to deliver the mission of TCGIS: Innovative education of the whole child through German immersion. We thank Board Secretary Kelly Laudon, teacher Emmi Koepke, and 7th grade student, Gus Beaton for speaking on behalf of the school at the public hearing. They did a wonderful job expressing their messages in front of City Council.
Bussing Survey - Please Respond by June 10

We are in the process of creating routes for bussing for the 2019-20 school year. If you are a current bus family and already filled out the survey, please do not fill it out again. If you are a family who is interested in starting bussing, please fill out this form
Lost and Found

If you are missing an item, please make sure to stop by to claim it! There are tons of items in the lost and found and these items will not be brought to the picnic this year.
Consideration and Grace Requested

We acknowledge that the City Council decisions yesterday were deeply disappointing for some members of the community. We ask our school community to maintain respectful interactions and understanding as we work toward rebuilding relationships. We wish the best for our shared community and hope for a brighter future as neighbors.
Host a German Teacher Next Fall During the 2-week Capstone Exchange

Katharina is seeking 4 host families for the German teachers who will accompany their 50 German students to our school next fall to participate in our Capstone Exchange. The teachers must have their own bedroom, but can share a bathroom. They should be able to get to/from school the same way your children do, and they may also be happy to bike or walk to/from school. The German students and teachers arrive Wed. Sept. 26 and depart on Thu. Oct. 10, 2019. Please  email Katharina  if you're interested in this short-term hosting opportunity!
Medtronic Scientists Visit 7th Grade Science

The 7th grade science classes welcomed 4 Medtronic scientists, including a nativ e German-speaking Veterinary Pathologist, to provide a lesson on heart anatomy in German. The kids dissected pig hearts and heard about the role of engineers and scientists in the design of life-saving implantable medical devices like pacemakers and defibrillators. We thank Nicole Kirchhof, Kimberly Chaffin, Molly Magnuson, and Julie Alkatout for volunteering to provide this unique educational opportunity for TCGIS kids!

Digital Citizenship Resources

We've been learning about Digital Citizenship in grades 2-4 the past few weeks! Does your child know rules and expectations about tech use at home and when your child is at a friend's house? (Some kids claim there are NO rules at home!) Check out these resources from Common Sense Media and Google

Common Sense Media has a section for parents that helps to answer questions:
How can I help keep my child safe while online? How do I know if my child is ready for their own phone? But what about reading over the summer?
Thank You and We Need Your Help

Girl Scout Troop #57317 at TCGIS would like to thank the community for their support this year. We had 75 Scouts in grades K-7. We sold around 5,000 boxes of cookies and donated 86 pounds of cookies to a food shelf. We had clean-up trips around the neighborhood. We had seven fifth-graders earn the Bronze Award, the highest award for Junior Girl Scouts, by creating shelters for community cats. Several girls are looking forward to attending summer camps.

But we could use  your help next year. We are looking for small-group leaders (join us for our one-hour monthly meeting, guiding a group of 6-7 girls in pre-planned activities) and 1-2 leaders for our younger program levels (one-hour meetings once a month, plus a few leader meetings). Next year will be our fifth year of Girl Scouts and we have lots of plans and experienced leaders in place to help! Please consider joining our exciting troop and guiding our girls in their service, leadership, and fun. You don't have to have been a Girl Scout, have a Girl Scout, or be a girl to help! If you have any questions, please contact Cindy Miller at  [email protected]
