Description:
The workshop commences with information on the history and mystery of Puppet Play in Therapy, and as Therapy. Each participant is invited to make a puppet with found objects from nature and a self-portrait puppet. Nature-Informed Therapy is evidence-based and effective for depression and anxiety. The new skills will easily transfer to your own clinical practice. Puppet Self-Portraits provide a once-removed experience of self, safely and playfully. Expect to laugh and learn, a winning combination for all types of therapeutic work.
Participants across the lifespan often project their own story into play. As a therapist of any type, one becomes the sacred witness, holding out a comforting image to the client or holding one for them. Following these six hours of the workshop, you can facilitate learning about feelings, how to handle hurts & anger, and what to expect when someone is grieving. Puppet play therapy is a healing instrument that will come more naturally when utilized. Puppet Play Therapy helps participants of all ages remain safe enough to travel between their inner experience and the present world.
Dr. V gives poignant & purposeful suggestions for practical puppet use in play therapy. You will be given viable ideas and experiences, along with videotaped material and concrete handouts. You will practice using the basic concepts of Puppet Play Therapy for assessment, treatment, and for work/practice at home.

Learning Objectives:
  • Describe two ways historical practices influenced Puppet Play Therapy
  • Practice introducing two puppets: a Nature Informed Puppet and a Self-portrait Puppet.
  • Demonstrate the use of a Self-Portrait Puppet to reveal deeper emotional content.
  • Demonstrate the type of playfulness that is key to client success for problem -solving.
