Hot Weather Safety

W hether outdoors or indoors, when it is hot and body temperatures begin to rise, individuals can develop hyperthermia, which encompasses several conditions including heat stress, heat fatigue, heat cramps, heat exhaustion, and heat stroke. According to the Red Cross, extreme heat has resulted in more deaths in the last few years than other types of severe weather. With summer weather coming up fast, the Illinois School and Campus Safety Program would like to share resources with you on hot weather safety. Both the National Weather Service website and the Ready Illinois website provide valuable information and resources on heat safety.
