News and Opportunities to Serve

June Mission Challenge

For the month of June, we will be collecting donations for our VBS program that will take place in July. Please see the table in the Gathering Area for specific items needed. If you would rather contribute financially, click here. Donations can be left in the bin outside the main doors or at the table near the Welcome Center.

May Mission Challenge

For the month of May, we collected 53 Twin Sheets sets and 22 pillows for Midwest Mission. Thank you so much to all who donated!

Cottage Meeting Hosts Needed

We are looking for a few people willing to host cottage meetings after Pastor Kim arrives. These will be meetings held either at your house or at the church where church members can come and share with Pastor Kim with a member of SPCR facilitating/taking notes. This will allow Pastor Kim to get to know us better and listen to our hopes and dreams for the future of the church. They will help her understand to where we are and where we want to go and how we will get there. Please contact Samantha Gunkelman if interested in hosting. We will have a signup list ready soon.

Albums for Pastor Bill and Pastor Kim

SPRC is working on albums for both Pastor Bill and Pastor Kim that will include a photo of you/your family and a note. Please feel free to email Emily a picture of you/your family or have that taken at church on Sunday by Emily or another member of SPRC. We also have blank notecards for both that will be at a table the next few weeks (finishing no later than June 7).

For Pastor Kim we would like to have you write anything that may be helpful for her to know and/or a note of welcome with full names at the end so she can start seeing faces and names together.

For Pastor Bill you can share a memory and/or well wishes as he transitions into the District Superintendent role.  If you will not be at church but want to be included, a note can also be sent to Emily and she will print it on the card.  If you have questions or submissions to email please send to Emily Carpenter by June 7.

Eat Play Pray

Our next event will be Sunday, June 7, 4-7 pm at the Carpenter's house. Hot dogs, chicken sausage and buns will be provided, please click here to RSVP and sign up for a side dish to share!

Celebrating with Pastor Bill and Jen

SPRC would like to invite you to help us celebrate Jennifer Dyer’s commissioning as a deacon as well as our time with Pastor Bill. If you would like to contribute financially to group gifts from the church, please include that in the memo line either on your envelope or online.

On June 14th after the worship service, we will be celebrating with a picnic lunch and cornhole tournament. Please RSVP here if you are able to come and are interested in the cornhole tournament and consider contributing to the food. If you have any questions, please reach out to Emily Carpenter.

Women's Luncheon

Our next luncheon will be at noon on Wednesday, June 17, at the Fairlawn Hilton. Bev and Nancy need your reservation by the end of the day on FRIDAY, June 12. You can call or text Nancy at (330)814-4081. You can also call or text Bev at (330)696-1183.

Landscaping Maintenance

We are looking for a team of people to help with regular maintenance of the beds. We will meet 9 am to noon every 4 weeks on Saturdays to weed and trim, etc. There is a sign-up sheet at the welcome desk as well as a small sheet with the dates- same dates shown on the screen. (May 30, June 27, July 25, August 22, September 19, October 17)

Come for one session or all and come 9 to noon or give whatever time you have. If Saturdays don’t work for you, but you would like to do some gardening during the week, please contact Jo Quandt.

When you sign up along with your cell phone number, you will receive a reminder group text close to each date.

Come out for a chance to work together to keep our church an inviting place to come!

VBS Donation and Volunteer Opportunities

We will be collecting donations to use during the week of July 6-10 when we host “Rainforest Falls” VBS. Please see the display at the table in the entry way and consider grabbing a “leaf” with a needed item listed on it. We ask that all donations be returned to the black bins no later than Sunday, June 28. If you prefer to make a monetary donation, please place it in an offering plate and write “VBS” on the memo line or on the outside of the envelope or visit our online donation platform HERE to give electronically. And, if you are able to volunteer for just one day or for all 5 days that week, we would love to have just a few more helpers for this awesome ministry! Click HERE to let us know if you can help.

Counters Needed

We are in need of volunteers to help count the Sunday giving after services. Please contact Beth Gerberich if you are interested and able to help!

Greeters

Anyone who would enjoy saying hello and helping direct visitors with basic questions about our church like, “Where are the restrooms?” and “Where is the sanctuary?” are welcome to sign up to greet at the side or main entrance doors. We ask greeters to be at church 15 minutes before the service starts and remain there 5 minutes after the service begins so all who are attending worship are welcomed. You can serve monthly, bi-monthly, quarterly and at your convenience! For those who are interested, sign up here. If you prefer to sign up with Katie, you can do so in the church office during the week!

Adult Class Opportunities

Weekly Groups:

Java & Jesus—Sundays at 11 am

The J&J group has decided to continue meeting throughout the summer. We will maintain our regular format of exploring each Sunday’s Scripture readings through thoughtful group discussion and reflection.

During the summer months, our gatherings will be a bit more informal, and we will not be scheduling designated discussion leaders. Instead, those who are able to attend each week will gather to share insights and engage in conversation about the Scriptures together.

Everyone is welcome to join us at any time. Whether you attend regularly or would like to drop in occasionally, we invite you to participate in these meaningful discussions.

Contact: Jo Quandt jmquandt@yahoo.com

Wired Word—Sundays at 11 am - on Summer Break

The Wired Word discusses big questions and scripture loosely related to a current event each week while we enjoy a time of fellowship. No preparation needed and it is a new topic each week, so it's ok if you can't come every week. We meet downstairs in room 3/5/7 after the worship service.

Children and Youth Ministry Yearly Training

If you volunteer for Children's Church, Sunday School, Nursery Care, VBS, Youth Group, or any other role that involves the children and youth of our congregation, we are required to provide training (also referred to as "Child Protection Policy & Abuse Prevention Workshop" or "Safe Sanctuary") on a yearly basis. We would like to offer this training on Wednesday, June 10 at 7pm in the Youth Room. This training should not take more than 1 hour. We will offer one additional training on Sunday, June 28 at 11am if you can't make the first session. All volunteers need to make it a priority to attend one of these sessions as there is important information to be shared. Please let Jen or Bethany know if you are NOT able to attend either session.

Children’s Church

If you have a child who is at least 3 years old up through those who are in or have just completed 3rd grade, please feel free to have them join us during the worship service for Children’s Church.

Sunday School

There will be no Sunday School classes during the summer months of June, July or August. We look forward to kicking off the new school year in September with our new classes. Stay tuned for more information to come.

Nursery Care

There will be no formal Nursery Care provided during the summer months of June, July or August. We will have a space for any families who wish to take their young children out of the sanctuary during the worship service in our Cry Room. This room is located at the rear of the sanctuary and has a window and a speaker so you are still able to join in the service if desired. This room is supplied with items to keep your young children occupied as well as diaper changing needs and comfortable seating with a bathroom just steps away.

Interested in volunteering for our Children’s Church or Sunday School programs?

We would love to have you! Adult and Youth volunteers are crucial to our programs and we will assist you with anything you need to know prior to volunteering. Please reach out to Bethany to volunteer.
