100 Deadliest Days for Teen Drivers

It is that time of year again, the days between Memorial Day and Labor Day, the 100 Deadliest Days for teen drivers. According to AAA "more than 7,000 people died in teen driving-related summertime crashes from 2010 to 2019. That’s more than seven people/day during these 100 Deadliest Days." The report also notes that distraction played a role in nearly 60% of teen driver crashes, speeding played a role in nearly 30% of crashes, and 60% of teen drivers killed in crashes were not wearing seat belts. Whether accidents are caused by distraction, speeding, or inexperience, it is important to encourage teens to drive safely and wear their seat belts. To help prevent accidents this summer, consider sharing the following resources.

There's Still Time to Register: Railroad Safety for First Responders, Educators, and School Bus Drivers class on June 17th via Zoom

The Illinois School and Campus Safety Program is pleased to announce the class "Railroad Safety for First Responders, Educators, and School Bus Drivers" will be held via Zoom on June 17th from 9am-11am. This class will cover the challenges that frontline responders and school staff are faced with when responding to an incident on or near railroad property. This 2-hour class will prepare all involved (bus drivers, school administrators, law enforcement, first responders, etc.) and provide responding individuals the correct tools to safely navigate the unfamiliar environment of the railroad. Attendees will gain access to the safest ways to respond to railroad incidents. For more information, click here.
