Chaos Regatta - ORC's new Club wide regatta!
|
|
The ORC will be holding a brand new club-wide regatta on Saturday, June 25th from 8:30 AM to 12 PM! Crews will be made up of athletes from different programs. What better way to get to know athletes from other programs than to row in the same boat!
Teams will be chosen “chaotically” with names drawn from hats and the opportunity to steal athletes from other boats. The winning crew will receive custom ORC swag to show off their win. And if that wasn’t enough, everyone will get brunch afterwards.
Regatta fees are $20 per athlete, $10 per coxswain and $10 to just have brunch. Brunch is included for regatta athletes, coxswains and volunteers. All the fees will go towards running the regatta and any leftover will go to the new gym equipment fund.
We are looking for volunteers to help out with this event in various roles, from Brunch Cooks to Safety Boat Drivers to regatta setup and take down. Volunteers will get free brunch!
If you are interested in participating as an athlete or volunteer, please fill out the form below!

The Senior Men will be hosting a BBQ and raffle at the ORC at 6pm, the evening of Canada Day (July 1st)! Help raise money for new gym equipment and celebrate summer as a club. Club Members and family/friends are welcome, but we ask you to let us know how many may be coming. Tickets will be sold at the door and will be 10 dollars for adults (13 and up), and 5 dollars for kids (12 and under). This includes a burger, side and sweet treats, as well as 1 alcoholic or non-alcoholic beverage.
Additional burgers, sides and drinks will also be available for purchase. Drinks (alcoholic and non) will be provided by Kichesippi Beer.
There will be a raffle with some incredible goodies too, including gift certificates for Regatta Sport and Zak's Diner, as well as homemade BBQ sauces and more. We are hoping to sell raffle tickets in advance too! To ensure we stock an appropriate amount of food, we would appreciate it if you could confirm if you, and any guests you might bring, are interested in attending by June 23rd.
Although the fireworks on Canada Day are moving to Lebreton Flats, for those who want to stay later after the BBQ, the club may still be a good place to watch the show!

The first ORC Sips wine tasting was held this past Saturday evening in the Andy Binda Boathouse. We had 27 people in attendance (22 attendees, 3 organizers, 1 volunteer and 1 sommelier). Those in attendance sampled four delicious wines along with a bubbly which were accompanied by either white truffle and parmesan popcorn, three cheeses donated by Grace in the Kitchen, Kanata along with dried apricots, apples, bread and crackers.
Everyone had a fantastic time, and there were a number of discussions around having another tasting later in the summer or fall! What was also discussed was the possible use of the Boathouse for further events used by other communities for their events, film screenings, and more! Great outcomes from this event.
Ultimately, we exceeded our expectations, and $936 will be donated to the Club for use in outfitting the weight room! Needless to say, the first ORC Sips was a success!
Huge thanks to Jennifer Shortall, Marie-Sophie, and Caroline for organizing this event!

Have you heard of Discord? Discord is an instant communication platform featuring text, voice, and video calling all in one!
The ORC has been trialing the use of Discord for Club Communications with great success. All ORC members are encouraged to participate, as well as Junior parents! This will facilitate interprogram communication and collaboration. It is a great way to meet fellow rowers and coordinate with each other!
Reminder: The current code of conduct at the ORC applies to communication and behaviour online within the Discord Server.
