Hello Beautiful Soropti Sisters,
I want to thank all of you who attended the business meeting and then voted on our motions using Survey Monkey. 44 members voted, I believe that’s the most votes we have had since using Survey Monkey. I feel we have adapted to a new way of taking care of business, and it’s also been fun and at times comical. To all of you Zoom professionals who help us get through our meetings and work with members after meetings, thank you! I love the teamwork and passion we have to help one another.
This week we will hear from our new committee co-chairs and will learn what committee we are on. Billie has been working hard getting it all prepared.
I have some fun planned for this week as well as a lot of thank you’s. I am so blessed to have the best board and co-chairs. My year has been a lot of fun. I wish we could have accomplished a lot more, but that was out of our hands. I do know we helped a lot of individuals with scholarships and donated a lot of money to the Peg Taylor Center and that makes me very happy. We also learned a lot about technology and had a lot of fun figuring it out. Looking forward to seeing all of you tomorrow on Zoom!
President,

This is an email President Carrie received from Executive Director & CEO of SIA, Elizabeth M. Lucas, CAE that she wants to share with us:
Dear Club Presidents,
We have heard from several of you about the death of George Floyd and the subsequent protests seeking racial justice. We join with the rest of the world in mourning the injustices faced by people of color.
We’ve been asked about SIA’s official response, and how clubs should respond. As you know, we are a non-political organization. Rightly or wrongly, George Floyd’s death and the protests have become politicized.
Emotions are high right now, and it may be hard to keep personal opinions to ourselves. But in service to our non-political stance, we ask that clubs refrain from releasing personal statements under the SIA banner. We have issued the official statement below and ask that our clubs use it.
We applaud the heartfelt concern of our members as we all work together to create a more just world. Thank you for your support and cooperation, and please contact
siahq@soroptimist.org
with any questions or concerns.
SIA Statement:
For almost 100 years, Soroptimist has worked to create a better world for women and girls. Diversity and Fellowship is one of the core values that drives our work, and we model it in our membership, the women and girls we serve, and our hiring practices. It pains us to see racial injustice and violence of any kind. While we are living through confusing times right now, where consensus is often hard to find, we remain committed to working for a more just and equal world. We urge introspection and collaboration on ways we can work together to fix systems that do not serve all of us equally. We know that many of the women and girls we serve face inequality because of their race or ethnicity, as well as their gender. We will continue to do our part and contribute positively to our communities, nations and the world by helping women and girls to reach their full potential by getting the education they need to achieve economic empowerment.
Right now, we urge calm, empathy and kindness. In the words of Abraham Lincoln, “We are not enemies, but friends. We must not be enemies. Though passion may have strained, it must not break our bonds of affection. The mystic chords of memory will swell when again touched, as surely they will be, by the better angels of our nature.”
Sincerely,
|

Dear SI Chico Members,
I am very much looking forward to serving as our club president next year. It is an honor to be surrounded by so many wonderful and diversified ladies. Many of you have stepped up to volunteer to hold different positions in our club. I appreciate all the hard work all of you do in making our club a success. Now is one of those times, when we need one of our members to step up and take on the position of
Treasurer Elect
for next year. Our current Treasurer and Treasurer Elect are willing to guide you and teach you the skills to hold this Board position. You will have the opportunity to learn from some very experienced and wonderful ladies who are willing to share their knowledge. This is a fantastic opportunity for anyone who has ever thought about learning more about what our Board of Directors do and how important the Treasurer and Treasurer Elect are to our Club. Our Club can not function without these positions. If you are interested in holding the position of
Treasurer Elect
or you would like more information on just what it entails, please email me so we can further discuss if this is a good fit for you. I know we have a lot of phenomenal ladies in our club who would really shine in this position and I look forward to hearing from you soon!
With gratitude,
Billie Araiza
President Elect

We are so happy you all loved your sign surprise recently!! The signs are a gift and absolutely yours to keep. Some of you may not want to store/keep it forever though, so we wanted to offer the option to return your sign for future use. If you would like us to store the sign, please drop it off on either Bonnie's (4166 Augusta Lane) or Billie's (24 Upper Lake Court) front porch anytime from now until the end of June. *
note, if dropping at Billie's do not confuse Lower Lake Court
. Thank-you!

Summer Socializing with SI Chico
Hello Soropti-sisters!
We are going to shake up our usual practice of summertime drop-in lunches in light of COVID-19 and hope that we can still socialize through the months of July and August comfortably. As you may know, we usually alternate through the list of member owned restaurants each Wednesday at noon through the summer, allowing members who are inclined and available to meet up with others and enjoy lunch while supporting our member's businesses. With social distancing and varying levels of comfort with dine-in, we decided to change this plan for summer 2020.
We will alternate take-out lunches and meeting at local parks with backyard morning coffee gatherings. (
Summer schedule below)
See you all this summer
SI Objectives
|
|
 |
Backyard morning coffee:
Some of our members have offered their backyards for these (socially distanced) morning gatherings. Please plan to bring your own coffee (or other beverage) and a chair. Enter directly to each member's backyard. It will be great to hang out together. (9:00 a.m.)
July 1 – Coffee @ 9:00, Bonnie Chapman’s backyard
July 15 – Coffee @ 9:00, Carol Burr’s backyard
August 5 – Coffee @ 9:00, Jeanne Smith’s backyard
August 19 – Coffee @9:00 Carrie Pavis’s backyard
|
|
 |
 |
Take-out lunches:
Our schedule will list the "suggested" take-out restaurant for each of these and then designate a shade covered picnic area in one of our parks for the lunchtime meet-up. Brown bagging is always an option. (noon)
July 8 – La Comida – Pick up lunch and eat at Wildwood Park
July 22 - Spiteri - Pick up lunch and eat at Wildwood Park
July 29 – SOL – Pick up lunch and eat at DeGarmo Park
August 12 – Cozy Diner – Pick up lunch and eat at Wildwood Park
August 26 – La Hacienda – Pick up lunch and eat at DeGarmo Park

This project will celebrate the 100th anniversary of the founding of Soroptimist. Our organization was started by a dedicated group of women who came together to network and help improve the lives of women and girls.
In honor of our founding sisters and to celebrate our SI Chico Club history, we would like to do a club legacy project that will benefit our local community for years to come. This project will be a joint project starting during President Billie’s club year and continuing through President Sara's club year.
Billie and Sara are compiling a list of suggestions for our SI Chico Club Legacy Project. They would like to encourage all club members to share their suggestions through this survey. If you have an idea how our club could make a lasting impact on our local community through our 100 Year Legacy Project please submit it.
With Gratitude,
Billie and Sara

As you may have suspected, The 2020 Home and Garden Show will not be taking place this month as originally planned. Instead,
it has been rescheduled to the new dates of July 25 and July 26
. Our obligation and schedule will remain the same, however we will start over with a new sign-up genius. We realize it's difficult to know what our plans will be in July, but please go ahead and sign up and each of us can easily change our chosen shift if needed at a later date.
Thank-you everyone!
