THCC Updates
In May THCC:
  • Enrolled 139 people in healthcare plans (11 QHP and 128 TennCare).
  • Worked with TennCare to identify 9 issues to resolve in new TennCare connect platform.
  • Collaborated with Wendell Potter to publish this op-ed, Gov. Bill Lee, Tennesseans need you to save their health care in the Tennessean.
  • Tabled the Knoxville City Neighborhood Conference to share information on policies that would provide health care to all Tennesseans.
  • Sponsored a panel on topic of rural hospitals for the Student Health Coalition at Vanderbilt University. Special thanks to panelists Dan Johnson, former CEO of Basin Medical Center, Terry Sabella, CEO of Tennessee Primary Care Association, Chuck Womack, former mayor of Cookeville and Barbara Clinton, THCC board member for facilitating.

  • Center on Budget and Policy Priorities published "Poverty Line Proposal Would Cut Medicaid, Medicare, and Premium Tax Credits, Causing Millions to Lose or See Reduced Benefits Over Time." (Link)

  • Tennessee Health Care Campaign and PFLAG Nashville are re-issuing their 2017 report "Care and Caring: Affordable Care Act, Health Coverage and LGBT Tennessee." in honor of Pride Month. (Link)

  • The Sycamore Institute published "Medical Debt Across Tennessee’s 95 Counties" finding Tennessee counties with higher rates of medical debt were more likely to have elevated rates of uninsured residents per capita. (Link)

  • Bipartisan Policy Center published a report "Reinventing Rural Health Care: A Case Study of Seven Upper Midwest States" highlighting the need for flexible policies to better serve rural communities. (Link)
Events and Webinars
Tennessee Association of Alcohol, Drugs, and other Addiction services (TAADAS) will participate in International Overdose Awareness Day. For more information on this and other news from TAADAS, subscribe here .

Tennessee Health Care Campaign will host its annual conference on September 21, 2019 at Saint Thomas Hospital West from 8:30am - 4pm. Registration covers morning coffee service, lunch, and a full day of speakers on topics impacting access to affordable, high-quality, and equitable healthcare in Tennessee.

  • Protect against healthcare discrimination of LGBT persons Currently there are a number of ways the Affordable Care Act and its protections for LGBT persons are under attack. Send a message to your federal Senators and Representatives to share how the ACA protects LGBT persons from healthcare discrimination and to preserve  Section 1557 of the law.
