U of G names new vice-president (research and innovation)

U of G has named Dr. Rene Van Acker its new vice-president (research and innovation).

Previously titled vice-president (research), the word innovation has been added to the role to emphasize U of G’s strategic priority of driving innovation and institutional creativity.

Dr. Rene Van Acker

“As I’ve come to appreciate the scope and scale of the role, I’m looking forward to continue the work I’ve been doing with the excellent leaders and teams within the Office of the Vice-President Research and Innovation. We are a very successful research-intensive university, but we can never take our past success for granted. We always need to take a fresh look at what we are doing to be successful going forward, and that’s what I intend to do.”

Newest data access portal to fuel innovation

Drs. Michelle Edwards, director of agri-food strategy and Lucas Alcantara, manager of research centre data at U of G

In collaboration with Agri-Food Data Canada (ADC), the Alliance launched a data portal for the Ontario Beef Research Centre. It is the newest addition to the growing suite of research centre data access portals that give researchers new, streamlined access to data while ensuring safe long-term storage to fuel future innovation.

“Data fuel insight and innovation,” says Dr. Lucas Alcantara, manager of research centre data and the architect of the new data portal. “This new portal will give researchers faster access to reliable data while also building a documented data library that can be used to help answer agri-food’s big questions, now and in the future.”
