                                                     General Reminders

Change of Address
If you will be moving, you are required to report this to us within 10 days of your move. This is part of your federal reporting requirements as an F-1 student. If you only submit an address update through your MySJSU account, we will not receive it. Therefore, you must also submit a change of address with the following form from our website:
Change of Address

Reporting Requirements
As an F-1 student, you are required to report any changes to your contact information (email, phone number, or physical address) within 10 DAYS of this change occurring. As mentioned above, please click on  change of address on our forms page to update all contact info (email, phone number, and physical address). Should you not update us in a timely manner of any changes to your personal contact information or OPT employment, you may be jeopardizing your F-1 status.

For post-completion OPT, please report your employment via the SEVP Portal.

For STEM-Extension OPT, you will need to report your employment through our
employment update report form. While on STEM-Extension OPT, you will need to re-validate your employment every 6 months, regardless of changes to your employer.

Grace Period
Your grace period is the 60 days after your program end date. Your program end date can be found on the first page of your I-20. This means that you have 60 days after your program end date to either enter into another degree program; apply for OPT; or sort out your personal affairs to prepare to return home.

The College of Professional and Global Education and the Career Center hosted an International Alumni round table discussion on April 25.

Featured Alumni panelists were Jose Quan Lau (CA Appellate Project), Shrikant Brahmbhatt (SAP Ariba Inc), Luis Liang (JLL) and Thejass Krishnan (Nutanix).  These Spartan professionals shared some key advice for students looking for internships and jobs:
  • Block out time on your calendar every week, dedicated to your job search
  • Keep your resume updated, and your LinkedIn profile active
  • Don't just limit your job search to high profile companies, apply to all
  • Contract work is a great way to get experience and skills, and help you decide next direction
  • Join Student Clubs, check out Meetups and industry groups for networking and potential job leads
  • Utilize ISSS and Career Center advising
  • Employers are looking for professionalism, not just tech skills
  • Be open to opportunities, not just your "dream job"
  • Your internship and job search can be difficult, and at times you may feel
defeated, but don't give up. Stay positive, keep at it!

Memorial Day, which falls on the last Monday of May, honors the men and women who have made the ultimate sacrifice for our country and have perished in the line of duty.

Veteran's Day is similar to Memorial Day, but it specifically celebrates all who have served in the U.S. military, not just our fallen heroes.

Memorial Day was initially known as Decoration Day following the conclusion of the Civil War to serve as a day of remembrance for those who have died in war. It was also originally celebrated on May 30.  By 1971, Memorial Day became an official federal holiday.
