Event Description

As fundraising professionals you hold great power in the stories you choose to share about those you serve. Storytelling at its best can be an empowering tool to shed light on issues that need support, at its worst it can also be a tool for supporting the very inequities that exist in our society. In this workshop you will learn more about:

  • The importance of intentional approaches to storytelling in the nonprofit sector
  • How program evaluation can be leveraged in fundraising efforts
  • How to ground, gather, and systematically collect stories that empower!

About our Speaker

Dr. Vanegas is a skilled consultant and engaging speaker who is committed to supporting organizations in their quest to create healthy and inclusive environments by sharing her expertise in the areas of program evaluation, social justice, and psychology. She is passionate about amplifying the voices of individuals not typically heard through the use of inclusive evaluation methods. She has subject matter expertise in the area of promoting the engagement of underrepresented communities in services that increase social capital (i.e., education, social services, health).

Dr. Vanegas holds a Ph.D., in Counseling Psychology from University of California, Santa Barbara. As a scholar, she has co-authored several publications and presented her research on access & utilization patterns of social service programs among underserved communities at various professional conferences at the national and international level.

In the public sector, she helps organizations attract funding, increase employee/volunteer retention rates, and promote the engagement of underserved communities in services through her unique research-backed approach to program evaluation.
