Get Help & Support

If you’re in emotional distress or suicidal crisis, find help in your area.

If it’s an emergency, call 911. You can also go to your nearest emergency room. A medical professional can give information about your particular circumstances.

If you believe that someone else is in danger of suicide and you have their contact information, contact your local law enforcement for immediate help. You can also encourage the person to contact suicide prevention hotline at 988 (call or text).

When you’re in crisis, research suggests that it may be helpful to reach out to others. When you connect with others, it can help you feel supported and give you a sense of belonging.

Columbus Animal Care & Control - Come Save Me Campaign

“Come Save Me”. Columbus Animal Care and Control will feature six (6) pictures and profiles of their longest residents to help them find their forever home. Anyone that chooses to adopt one of the featured animals will be able to adopt at a reduced rate of $50.00.

The “Come Save Me” campaign is an ongoing effort to save the lives of every animal that enters the Columbus Animal Care and Control Shelter, and they need the help of the community to make this happen.

If you are looking for a new pet or have room for another pet in your home, please consider adopting from Columbus Animal Care and Control. These babies deserve a loving family and home so why not let it be yours? If you have questions about adoptions or any of the animals you see, please contact the office at 706.225.4512 or visit us in person at 4910 Milgen Road, Columbus, GA 31907.

Columbus Animal Care & Control would also like to remind everyone to have their animal(s) microchipped. A tiny microchip, placed under the skin of a pet, gives that pet their own unique code that can be scanned and matched to the owners’ contact details. If your animal(s) is/are microchipped, please remember to update your address in the microchip company registry if you move. If your animal(s) is/are not microchipped, please speak with your veterinarian, or reach out to Columbus Animal Care and Control at 706.225.4512 for details of how you can get your animal(s) microchipped.

For More Information, Contact: Canita Johnson, Division Manager 706.225.4512 Johnson.canita@columbusga.org

Workplace Safety

Keep your work area and Emergency Exits clear. Remove any clutter blocking emergency exits, equipment shutoffs, anywhere else that could pose a safety hazard.  A cluttered work area can lead to not having enough space to use tools and pick up heavy objects properly. If an exit is obstructed, you may not be able to escape quickly if an emergency occurs.

Employee Spotlight

Battle of the Badges Blood Drive achieved the largest result on record from a Columbus Government-sponsored blood drive!! We collected a total of 86 units which can save up to 258 lives! Thanks to everyone who helped make it

such a great success!!

As to the winner, both the Fire Department and Sheriff’s Office were neck and neck at the end of the blood drive with both sides continuing to call for support. We declared the battle a TIE!

Congratulations to Columbus Muscogee County Prison for receiving a certificate for the most GEDs obtained in the previous year period of the 21 County Facilities in the State of Georgia!

Deputy Warden King is the onsite GED instructor through Columbus Technical College. Kudos to him and the

staff for a great job!

Meet Your Risk

Management Investigators

For any CCG Employee who drives a City vehicle, you may know we have Risk Management Investigators that respond to the scene of any vehicle accident involving a City vehicle. The Investigators are not only dedicated to their primary job, but they are also on-call with Risk Management 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

The Risk Management Investigators will carefully survey the scene, take photos of the scene, and obtain statements from all parties involved, including witnesses. The Investigators are non-biased, and they are not at the scene to identify who is to blame. The Risk Management Investigators are essential to protecting the employees, the citizens, and the Columbus Consolidated Government.

Employee Safety Spotlight:

As part of our commitment to safety in the workplace, we would like to acknowledge employees who demonstrate safe behaviors on the job. If you have an employee that has shown superior safety practices, please let us know and we will highlight them in the Insight Newsletter! Please email the employee’s name, a photo, and how they showed safety practices to Lauren Vance, Risk Management.

June 1-7 is National CPR and AED Awareness Week – please take a moment to familiarize yourself with the location of the AED units throughout our CCG buildings. If you are unsure of the nearest AED, please contact Risk Management. If you are responsible for maintaining the Accutrack system for CCG’s AED units, please make sure your unit is up to date.

Have you ever heard of a CPR Playlist? Songs that are between 100-120 beats per minute are the same rate you should perform compressions when administering CPR.

You can save a life simply by performing compressions to the beat of some of your favorite songs! Check out this Spotify playlist and add it to your Spotify account so you will always have it with you.
