June Climate Solutions Caucus Round-Up

Dear Stakeholder,

Please see below for highlights from June and a preview of what’s to come.

June Engagement:

Members joined the Problem Solvers Caucus Working Group to discuss permitting reform

  • Members attended a permitting reform discussion hosted by the Problem Solvers Caucus’ Permitting, Energy & Environment Working Group to discuss the recent Seven County decision by the Supreme Court and implications for NEPA reform.

  • In mid-June, staff received a briefing on small modular reactors from the Department of Defense (DoD), and Idaho National Lab (INL). Staff discussed (1) the DoD approach to energy and security; (2) partnerships between national labs, agencies, and the private sector; and (3) DoD and INL’s joint role in implementing the Administration’s executive orders on energy.

Staff toured Idaho National Lab nuclear test facilities and discussed next-generation technologies.

  • Staff traveled to Idaho National Lab at the end of June, in a trip hosted by the Climate Solutions Foundation, to tour the facility—including nuclear test reactors and INL’s electric grid test bed. Staff discussed innovative technologies in the nuclear sector, public-private partnerships, and the Lab’s future plans in coordination with the private sector, agencies, and the Administration.

Looking Ahead:

Members plan to meet next to discuss geothermal energy, strategies for meeting surging power demand, and leveraging the workforce overlap between geothermal and the oil and gas sector.

Caucus staff plan to discuss connections between electrical grid buildout and modernization and national security.

As always, stakeholders are encouraged to approach the Climate Solutions Caucus with priorities and engagement ideas as the Fall 2025 programmatic calendar develops.
