The Appeal 2023

Thank you to the many parishioners who have given to The Appeal! As Monsignor Hendricks leaves St. Brigid of Kildare, we are trying to complete The Appeal by July 1, 2023. This will allow Father Black to begin his position as Pastor without needing to complete this program and instead focus on his new role.

The Appeal (previously known as the Bishop’s Annual Appeal) is how we as a parish have an opportunity to bring about a positive change in the lives of many of God’s people in our Diocese.  This year’s Appeal is themed “Forward with Jesus.” The Appeal supports essential ministries, formation, and outreach under the four pillars of evangelization, vocations, education, and social concerns.

Your gift matters! All dollars raised to meet the Diocesan Appeal goal of $7,000,000 will fund the needs of identified diocesan ministries, programs, and services (find specific details here).

We are currently just $110, 000 shy of our $314,000 goal. Please consider a gift to help us make our goal and aid those in our diocese that are in need of help. We would like to have 100% participation from our parish.

Please use the link below (columbuscatholicgiving.org) to make a pledge or gift to The Appeal. You can also return the envelope you received in the mail or use one of the pledge cards provided in the basket at the back of the church.

Remember no gift is too small. We need everyone to get involved! Please join us by donating by July 1, 2023! Thank you for your generosity.

Church Sound Project Update

We are excited to announce that, in preparation for the arrival of our new organ, renovation of the choir loft will begin the week of June 26. The old organ will be retired, and you will see major and minor changes as you come to Mass each week. The new organ is scheduled to be installed the week of July 17.

This is part of the project we have been working on to improve our church sound over the last several years. We have recently replaced and added equipment including speakers, a sound system, and a hearing-assist system. We also will be renovating our choir loft space to better accommodate the new organ and allow flexibility for our many choirs and musicians who serve so beautifully.

We are grateful to be able to implement these improvements through the generosity of our parishioners, especially to the Bishop's Annual Appeal.

Princess Tea In Support of Mommies Matter

On June 3, 64 women and girls gathered for afternoon tea in support of Mommies Matter! Mommies Matter provides a variety of pregnancy and parenting resources to single mothers under the umbrella of "doing life together." Thank you, again, to all the women and girls who joined us for tea and to celebrate the dignity and value of the little girl(s) you love.

The Chosen Season 3

THE CHOSEN – Season 3

The Chosen is not a substitute for Bible study or reading. It is one way, however, to deepen our understanding and love of Jesus and to understand what it might have been like to follow Him then and what it is like to follow him today. Often, we freeze-frame the disciples as very holy men and women who followed Jesus without ever making mistakes, or doubting, or always getting along with each other without any problems. The Chosen offers historical fiction backstories of the followers of Jesus to show the humanity we share with them.

As Season 3 continues to delve into the lives of the disciples we get to see a little more of the tension and difficulty they faced that we might not usually think about. We follow the lives of Jesus and the disciples as the ministry of Jesus begins to spread. The disciples’ lives are examined as they are sent out by Jesus. As the disciples start to go out, and the teachings of Jesus start to spread, tensions rise. But Jesus reminds the disciples again and again that He came with hope, not a sword. The season ends with two powerful miracles and the disciples coming back together.

SPiCE Committee Chairs Needed

The SPiCE program at St. Brigid of Kildare thrives because of the time and talent of our volunteers -- without your support, these programs wouldn't be possible. Because of this program, we are able to support the educational needs of all children, especially those with special learning needs, as we strive to serve a variety of learning styles, providing diversity in the classroom environment. To learn more about SPICE, click here.

The SPiCE program is actively seeking to fill the roles of chair, vice chair, and secretary for the upcoming 23-24 school year. Below is more information about how you can support SPiCE at St. Brigid of Kildare through these positions.

  • Chair Person: Duties include the calling of, and presiding over, all meetings of the Executive Committee, along with setting the agenda for the meetings (four per year). The Chair Person has the responsibility for representing the SPICE committee outside of the parish activities. These events include activities such as meeting with other SPICE committees in the Diocese (twice per year). The Chair Person currently has a presence at Parent Admin Day, Sunday Socials, Ministry Weekend, and Corks for a Cause, and other appropriate events as they arise. The Chair Person shall serve in the capacity for a period of 1 year.
  • Vice Chair Person: Duties will be to provide assistance to the Chair Person in case the Chair is unavailable for committee meetings (four per year). The Vice Chair Person will also share the responsibility with the Chair Person for representing the SPICE committee outside of the parish activities. These events include activities such as meeting with other SPICE committees in the Diocese. The Vice Chair Person shall serve in the capacity for a period of 1 year, until such time that the SPICE committee shall elect a new person. The Vice Chair Person will automatically be appointed into the Chair Person in the second year after the completion of the Vice Chair position.
  • Secretary: Duties include soliciting agenda items from the executive and sub-committee members two weeks prior to the meeting date, creating the agenda and sending it out one week prior to the meeting date, and documenting meeting minutes and action items from committee meetings (four per year). In addition, the secretary will maintain the roster list of participants and send out meeting reminders.

Meetings are held four times a year, typically in the evening in Hendricks Hall. The meeting dates and times can be set with the input of the new committee members.

If you are interested in serving our SPiCE board in one of these roles, or in a lesser role, please reach out to Jill Carfagna at [email protected] or (614) 718-5825.

Real Presence, Real Future Results

The Diocese of Columbus, with the guidance of Bishop Earl K. Fernandes, has released the final results of the Real Presence, Real Future initiative.

Real Presence, Real Future was a two-year diocesan-wide consultative process that invited participation from clergy, lay ecclesial ministers, parish volunteers, and all the faithful. By listening to the needs of our diocese and hearing ideas, concerns and desires, this process was designed to determine the best path forward to increase the presence of the Church throughout the Diocese of Columbus.

While there is no change to our parish structure at St. Brigid of Kildare, if you would like to view the final results for the rest of our diocese and learn more, please see:

Bishop Earl K. Fernandes would like to thank everyone who has devoted their time to this initiative. Please pray for those for whom these changes will bring change to their spiritual lives.

National Eucharistic Revival

The National Eucharistic Revival is a movement to restore and renew our worship of Jesus Christ in the Eucharist here in the United States. It is a three-year process of discernment, encounter, and response on the diocesan, parish,

and individual levels. The Feast of Corpus Christi, celebrated June 11 at our parish, began the second year of this process, which is a focus on parish revival and strengthening our liturgical life through faithful celebration of the Eucharist.

Beginning in Advent, and going through January, St. Brigid of Kildare will offer a program called “Jesus and the Eucharist” developed by a team of Catholic experts working closely with the National Eucharistic Revival. This will be offered once during the day and once in the evening for seven weeks. Watch for registration information in the fall. Small groups of the parish that meet weekly will also be encouraged to participate in the program during their regularly scheduled times in December

and January.

For more information, or to register your small group to receive information directly as it comes available, please contact Kim VanHuffel at [email protected].
