JUNE 2025

Please join us on Sunday, June 29 at 12 PM at Brigid's Green for our annual Parish Picnic, and to say farewell to Father Lynch and Deacon Petrill, as well as welcome Father Fox and Father Carter.

Fr. Lynch has received a new assignment as Pastor of St. Mary Parish in German Village. This assignment will be effective July 8, 2025. Fr. Lynch is well prepared to be a pastor and we wish him well.

Deacon Steve has also received a new assignment to diaconal ministry at St. Thomas Newman Center, the Ohio State University. This is a very exciting opportunity for Deacon Steve and we congratulate him. He will be a great presence among the Catholic Community as OSU. While he will no longer be ministering as a deacon here at St. Brigid, he and his family will remain parishioners of St. Brigid of Kildare.

Join us for lunch, treats, games and community at Brigid's Green at noon on Sunday, June 29. Please RSVP below so we can plan accordingly.

Welcoming Father Jason Fox

We are delighted to welcome Father Jason Fox to St. Brigid of Kildare as our new Parochial Vicar, who began his time at our parish in May.

Father Fox most recently served at St. John Neumann Parish after being ordained in 2024. He completed his seminary studies at Pope St. John XXIII National Seminary in Boston, a seminary dedicated to men in their second vocation who have already earned a bachelor’s degree. Prior to entering seminary, Father Fox earned a bachelor’s degree in criminal justice and law enforcement in Michigan.

A native of Toledo, Ohio, Father Fox attended the same elementary school as Bishop Earl Fernandes and was later part of the public school system in Toledo. After later moving to Columbus, his home parish became St. Joan of Arc, where he was inspired by the pastoral leadership of Fr. Black and Fr. Smith. His love for parish life and liturgy has grown over the years, and he has been actively involved in supporting local ministries, including a reintroduction home in Delaware.

Father Fox is passionate about working with children and youth, and he is especially excited to be part of a parish with a vibrant school community. He’s looking forward to engaging with the youth group, the many active ministries here, and getting to know the families of the parish.

Family is an important part of Father Fox’s life. His parents reside in Toledo, and he has three sisters—two of whom live in Columbus. Between them, he has four young nieces and nephews. With a father who is the youngest of ten, Father Fox comes from a large extended family with 21 cousins, so a large close-knit family has always been a part of his life.

Father Fox is looking forward to participating in liturgical life, engaging with the school and youth programs, and hopefully taking up golfing again!

Please join us in welcoming Father Jason Fox. There will be a welcome reception at our Parish Picnic on Sunday, June 29 at noon at Brigid’s Green.

Welcoming Father Tyler Carter

Dear Parishioners of St. Brigid of Kildare Parish,

My name is Fr. Tyler Carter, and I’ll be joining you as a parochial vicar in July. I was ordained a Priest for the Diocese of Columbus last year, along with Fr. Fox, so I’m still a fairly new priest. I was born and raised in Columbus, and I’m the youngest of two children. I was a parishioner of St. Patrick’s in Columbus before my ordination, and I’m an alumnus of Bishop Watterson High School (Go Eagles!). After graduating from Watterson in 2015, I entered seminary at the Pontifical College Josephinum and graduated in 2019 with a B.A. in Philosophy, and a Master of Divinity in 2024. I spent my first year of priestly ministry as parochial vicar of St. Matthew the Apostle in Gahanna.

I’m looking forward to joining you in Dublin, and to getting to know each of you as time goes on. In addition to my ministry at St. Brigid, I will continue as the Administrator of Holy Resurrection Melkite Catholic Parish in Columbus. The Melkite Catholic Church is one of the 24 autonomous churches that make up the Catholic Church, alongside the Latin (Roman Catholic) church and 22 other Eastern churches. Melkites are Byzantine-rite Catholics who trace their roots to the early Christians in Antioch (Syria), where the term "Christian" was first used, and where St. Peter established Christianity before continuing his ministry in Rome.

Due to my assignment at Holy Resurrection, while I will be present at St. Brigid throughout the week, on Sundays I will primarily be present at Holy Resurrection to hear confessions, lead Orthros (morning prayer), and to celebrate the Divine Liturgy (Mass). This means that on the weekend you’ll mainly see me at the 5 p.m. Vigil Mass or the 7:30 a.m. Sunday Mass. However, I plan to be around the parish each week and to engage in the life and events of our parish community.

Thank you in advance for your kind welcome. Please pray for me as I prepare to join you in July, and be assured of my prayers for each of you daily. May God bless you all, and I look forward to seeing you very soon.

Yours in Christ,

Rev. Fr. T. A. Carter

Parochial Vicar

Welcoming Aaron Quinn, Athletic Director

St. Brigid of Kildare School is pleased to welcome Aaron Quinn as our new Athletic Director.

Aaron is a familiar face in our community, having most recently served as the Safety Coordinator for St. Brigid during the 2024–25 school year. In that role, he was responsible for the safety and security of our parish school.

Aaron brings decades of experience in public safety and education, including service with the Ohio State Highway Patrol and various leadership roles in campus safety and athletics. He has served as Safety Director and Dean of Students at the University of Rio Grande, as well as Dean of Students, Campus Safety Coordinator, and Athletic Director at Mount Vernon Nazarene University. He also previously served as Athletic Director at Cambridge High School.

Aaron is a certified self-defense instructor, a professional police and field training officer, and a CPR-certified educator. He has taught public safety and law enforcement classes to youth and has a passion for leadership and mentorship.

As Athletic Director, Aaron will oversee all aspects of the athletic department, supporting coaches, teams, and volunteers, while promoting a positive and faith-filled game experience that reflects the mission of St. Brigid of Kildare.

“I am most looking forward to sharing my love for athletics and how it allows us to learn, display, and live out biblical principles,” Aaron shares. “I am excited to work with the St. Brigid community to make our athletic department the flagship for the Diocese of Columbus!”

Aaron will serve as our parish’s first non-volunteer Athletic Director. As our parish and athletics program continues to grow, this new position has become a necessary step in ensuring continued excellence and sustainability.

We extend our heartfelt gratitude to the many dedicated volunteers who have faithfully led and supported our Athletic Association over the past several decades. Their outstanding commitment to ministering to our children through sports has been a true blessing, and we are deeply thankful for the countless hours of service they have, and continue to, generously give.

Aaron began his new role in June and is enjoying working with parents, volunteers, staff, and students.

He can be reached at 614-761-3734 ext. 297 or via email at aquinn@stbrigidofkildare.org.

Welcoming Natalia Banks, Latchkey Director

St. Brigid of Kildare School is happy to welcome Natalia Banks as our new Latchkey Director. Natalia brings a wealth of professional experience, including serving the St. Brigid of Kildare School community for the past nine years. Natalia spent seven years working in the cafeteria, two years aiding in latchkey, has worked as a library and science assistant, and currently serves as a kindergarten classroom aide. Natalia also has prior career experience as a certified nurse, working in diverse settings including pediatric rehabilitation and as a school nurse.

Natalia and her family have been members of our parish since 2006, where her involvement in parish life has been a transformative journey filled with growth and community. “I began by participating in weekly services and volunteer opportunities such as Sandwich Saturday. Engaging in various volunteer activities deepened my faith and allowed me to connect with a vibrant community committed to service and God. Each interaction has reinforced my belief in the power of faith-driven action, reminding me that even small contributions can make a significant impact.” Natalia says.

Natalia and her husband Philip have three adult children (Nick, Brian, and Anastasia) and a youngest daughter (Arina) who is graduating from St. Brigid of Kildare School this year and will be attending Bishop Watterson High School. Adding to her family’s joys are two delightful grandchildren (Milo and Hazel). “Our family dynamics create a blend of love, understanding, and respect. We cherish our time together, whether it’s sharing meals, going on adventures, or simply enjoying each other’s company at home. Family is our greatest treasure.” Natalia says.

Natalia is excited for the opportunity to contribute to our school's mission and create a safe, engaging, and enriching environment for our students. “St. Brigid School’s dedication to fostering a supportive community and emphasis on education grounded in respect, kindness, and service strongly resonates with my personal values. I believe that an after-school program should not only provide supervision but also promote creativity, social interaction, and learning opportunities. I’m excited to support working parents by providing a safe and enriching space for their kids. Building strong relationships with both students and staff will be incredibly fulfilling, and I’m eager to contribute to the school’s community while also growing professionally in this essential role.” Natalia says.

Natalia will begin her role this August and is currently seeking candidates to apply for latchkey assistants. She can be reached at mrs.banks@stbrigid-school.org.

Serving the Sick & Homebound: Eucharistic Ministers

For those in our parish family who are unable to join us for Mass on Sunday due to an illness or an accident, we have a committed group of volunteers who bring the Eucharist to them. Volunteer ministers take Holy Communion to Catholics at the Convalarium, Brookdale, Dublin Glenn, and Dublin Retirement Village and Assisted Living each Sunday.

Those who minister in this area are commissioned Eucharistic Ministers and make their first visits with an experienced mentor.

Our parish is currently in great need of additional Eucharistic Ministers who can bring Communion to these communities.

If you are interested in participating in this ministry, please contact Deacon Paul Zemanek at pzemanek@stbrigidofkildare.org.

Social Action Food Drive

The Social Action Committee will be collecting needed items to benefit the food pantry at the Bishop Griffin Resource Center. Volunteers will be outside Hendricks Hall around all Masses on July 26-27 collecting your donations.

Any donation is greatly appreciated, but there is a greater need for:

* Cooking oil

* Pasta

* Individually wrapped toothbrushes

The parishioners at St. Brigid have been incredibly generous every time we hold a collection. Food insecurity & lack of personal hygiene items is a tremendous problem especially for children and the elderly. During the Memorial Day collection, you donated an overflowing SUV of hygiene & cleaning items for which Catholic Social Services was most appreciative.

For any questions or to help with the collection, please contact Joane at jeless@sbcglobal.net.

Thinking About Becoming Catholic?

The OCIA (Order of Christian Initiation for Adults, formerly known as RCIA) provides an opportunity for adults who are seeking full communion with the Church to learn about the Catholic faith.

If you are thinking about becoming Catholic, or were baptized Catholic but were never Confirmed, please join us.

Below is a submission from a parishioner who went through the OCIA process:

"When I first joined the OCIA program, I’ll be honest, I was doing it mostly to please my future in-laws. They’re devout Catholics, and while I respected their faith, I didn’t understand why being Catholic over a non-denominational Christian mattered. I figured I’d go through the motions, check the box, and move on.

After weeks went by, something shifted.

What I began to realize is OCIA wasn’t pressure or obligation, it was an honest invitation to explore and to ask those hard questions. The people in the group were open and kind. They weren’t trying to sell me anything; they were just walking the same road.

Somewhere along the way, I stopped going just for my in-laws. I started going for me.

And one of the greatest surprises was the friendships I made. We celebrated milestones together, shared stories, laughed and truly became like family.

I went into OCIA expecting to sit quietly in the back row. I came out not only as a confirmed Catholic, but as part of a community I never expected to fall in love with.

OCIA didn’t just change how I think about faith, it changed how I think about belonging. I’m truly grateful for the journey. Even if you don’t end up becoming Catholic, you might walk away knowing more about yourself and what truly matters to you. And that alone makes the experience worth it." — Anonymous

Sowing Seeds of Hope at St. Brigid of Kildare School

The 2024–25 school year at St. Brigid of Kildare School was one rooted in optimism and growth, guided by the theme “Seeds of Hope.” This meaningful focus provided students with countless opportunities to learn that, despite the many challenges in the world, God’s love remains constant and unwavering.

Using the simple yet powerful imagery of a seed, children explored how care and nurturing can transform something small into something beautiful, whether a blooming flower or a piece of fruit that nourishes the body. This metaphor served as a foundation for lessons on hope, compassion, and inclusion.

In partnership with the SPiCE (Special People in Catholic Education) program, students also spent the year learning about different disabilities, celebrating awareness months, and deepening their understanding of inclusion and empathy, particularly as they relate to people with special needs.

Each month focused on a different disorder or disability, such as ADHD, autism, dyslexia, rare diseases, and Down syndrome. In the classroom, students discussed these topics and participated in hands-on activities that encouraged empathy and understanding. Highlights included adaptive physical education experiences, where students played sports under conditions simulating hearing loss, vision impairment, and physical paralysis. Early in the year, students used bracelets to help express and manage back-to-school anxiety. Families were also engaged in the learning process, with parents receiving information to support continued conversations at home.

The year concluded in May with a celebration of hope and inclusion. Students in grades K–8 decorated paper flowers with words that reflected what they had learned—messages like “We are all different,” “No one is perfect,” and “Acceptance” were among the artwork. These vibrant blooms symbolized the growth of compassion and understanding in each child, forming a garden of hope that captured the spirit of the entire year.

St. Brigid of Kildare School would like to extend a special thank you to Ms. Kathy O'Reilly (Principal) and Mrs. Jill Carfagna (Vice Principal), and the faculty for supporting the SPiCE mission during these important lessons and awareness months.

“May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, so that by the power of the Holy Spirit you may abound in hope.” — Romans 15:13

The Appeal 2025: Help Us Reach Our Goal

The Appeal is our parish’s opportunity to make a real difference in the lives of many across our Diocese. This year’s theme, “Together in Mission,” reminds us of our shared call to evangelize and serve (Mark 16:15).

We’ve raised $252,000 toward our $365,000 goal — and every dollar over our goal comes back 100% to support our own parish ministries and projects.

After prayerful consideration, we invite you to give what you can at columbuscatholicgiving.org.

Coming this Fall to Adult Faith Formation

Adult Faith Formation is the lifelong process of finding and falling in love with God in the midst of our human lives. Because God made us to be communal people, we do this with others, where we can form friendships and community, centered on our relationship with God. We have several Adult Faith offerings to meet the time and demographic preferences of our parishioners.

Below are the Adult Faith Formation offerings for the 2025-26 year. For more information, see details below or contact Kim VanHuffel at kvanhuffel@stbrigidofkildare.org.

The Chosen Season Five

This fall, we will begin our study with The Chosen, Season Five. The Chosen is a historical drama based on the life of Jesus and those who knew him. Set against the backdrop of Roman oppression in first-century Palestine, the series shares an authentic look at Jesus’ revolutionary life and teachings, through the eyes of his apostles.

Season 5 of “The Chosen,” titled “The Chosen: The Last Supper,” focuses on Holy Week and the events leading up to Jesus’ crucifixion, including the Last Supper, the triumphal entry, Jesus turning the tables in the temple, and the betrayal of Judas. It’s a heavily dramatic season with a lot of build-up and political intrigue, emphasizing Jesus’ teachings and the impact on his disciples. It should lead to great small group discussions!

If you have not yet watched The Chosen and would like to participate in our upcoming study, you will want to catch up by watching seasons 1-4 at home. It is available for free on The Chosen App or online at watch.thechosen.tv (although you will have to set up a free account). You can also watch all four seasons on Prime Video if you have a subscription.

We will begin the study on Wednesday, September 3, 2025 from 7-8:30 pm, and Thursday, September 4, 2025 from 10:30 am-noon, in the Berry Room of Hendricks Hall. The study will run for 8 weeks.

For more information contact Kim VanHuffel at kvanhuffel@stbrigidofkildare.org.
